what ways are there to make a shackle point more towards the ground rather than towards the back other than moving spring hangers?

i knew some shiat like that was comin, but i'm a forkin tard and i welded my hangers on before i put wieght on them, the angles were good before i dropped the jeep on 'em, so now they are too far back, would something like shorter shackles work or am i goin to have to cut them off and move the hanger back?

longer shackles. Do they invert? If not you don't have too much angle..

cut and weld, that angle is nuts you would need like a 2' long shackle to get a good angle

what if i used some channel and added a few inches out back and braced it to the frame, would that work?, because i want to keep the wheelbase, the stock cj5 as you all know BLOWS

Yes, you need to extend the frame about 4-5".

I would fab a whole new rear bumper, with integrated shackle hangers. Use a long peice of sqaure-wall, say maybe 2"x4"x.25 wall, cut that to the width of the frame rails, then make 4 smaller pieces about 4" long, from the same material, and weld those off the rear Xmember, then weld the long piece to the 4 small ones. Then you can move your shackle hangers anywhere back there that you like. You will also have a nice little rack for a spare tire mount later, or cooler mount, whatever...

Like elf said you can make a new bumpe and intigrate the shackle mounts. Find a pic of H8monday's rig. I is a very good example.

That's what Kieth Strong's (he's on the board) rear shackle look like and he seems pretty happy with them. You could PM him, or wait and see if he replies...

Oh, and nice Thornturds :flipoff2:

I took a 3" bushing assembly I got from MORE and welded them to a 2" tube. Then drilled a 2" hole through the rear bumper. The 2" pipe will slide into the frame giveing you an adjustable shackle mount.Put so weight on the springs and get them where you want them. Then you can weld them or there are a couple of holes in the frame above the stock shackle hanger you could bolt through.Blazin

well since i'm kinda short on cash and the 4 35x14.50 thornturds were only $275 i bought 'em, figured wheel 'em for a little while, save money for some 36x12.50 tsl's

I think the shackle hangers in the bumper is what i'm goin to do, i'm goin to put in a new (better) rear crossmember, that way i can keep the somewhat longer wheelbase

clean-up the ends of the frame rails, find a suitable size peice of square tube for the bumper/crossmember/shackle mount. weld on some hangers and your done. simple and effective, whats the problem? :p

EDIT: find all the camping gear, tools and spares your going to be carrying on board(dont forget the weight of your gas), and load them up before you make the new mounting spot cause thats the amount of weight and where its gonna sit when your out acually wheelin. ;)
