TO ALL BMX RACERS, MOUNTAIN BIKERS, DIRT JUMPERS, ETC:
BMX (bicycle motocross) is a the sport of racing bicycles over a dirt course with large jumps and berms – as of 2008 it is an official Olympic Sport.
The track is approximately 1200’ long, and races 8 people out of a starting gate to the finish line. Racing classes are by age group and by skill level. It is common to see 5 year olds up to 70 year old’s racing BMX.
We are trying to start a new BMX track in Vancouver, WA.
This will be open to the public, and only closed to the general public for riding during “sanctioned events” – i.e. bmx races (then open to members for racing that event).
BMX races always encourage mountain bikers as well, and spectators are always free.
-----------------------------------------------------
Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Department (VCPRD) has generously offered us a site for a new BMX race track in Vancouver, WA.
For those not familiar of our area, we are just north of Portland, Oregon on the Columbia River.
"Curtain Creek Sports Fields and Community Park" is 2.5 miles from I-205 and 13 miles north of PDX airport. VCPRD is now pursuing funding, of which the BMX race track is planned to be built in the first phase.
We need your support, I want to show them that BMX racing is a serious sport, and that the support is amazing. A mile long list of supporters will go a long way to show the city our importance, and help the current and future fundraising capabilities.
Please send an email to vancouverbmx@gmail.com, and include the following information for each family member (because we all participate or support):
--inividuals full name
--individuals age (so we can show that it's for all ages)
--city and state of residence
--email (so I can keep you updated of the progress)
Please also categorize each individual as:
--BMX RACER (you are local, race now, and will race this new track)
--BMX SUPPORTER (you don't race but support the activity and the idea of a local track)
--DISTANT BMX RACER (you have a local track, but will race at this new track periodically...)
--NEW BMX RACER (you hope to give racing a try at this new track)
Also, we have a facebook presence - please look us up.
--Vancouver BMX Washington (friend page)
--Vancouver BMX (company page, with track design history and development)
If you are unfamiliar with facebook, you can google "facebook vancouver bmx" and see all the information without being a facebook member.
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
