A friend of mine has purchased a 1983 CJ and was wondering if there was any articals regarding the Frame Strength or Welding the Frame in certain points. Just wondering if any of you CJ Guuu Ruuu's can lend a hand with some links pictures or any info. Thanks again and yes I did try the Search forum but failed to find anything that would help him.

I think that by '83 the frames were boxed by the factory in all of the obvious weak spots. What I would recommend is to strap the top and bottom fraimrails with either 3/16" or 1/4" flat bar, end to end.

Go to www.mountainoffroad.com (http://www.mountainoffroad.com) and look at their frame plates, I plated my entire CJ-5 frame and my CJ-7 frame.

It will give you some ideas, you can cut the plates yourself or buy theirs.

FYI a good place to find cracks on CJ's frames is right behind and/or in front of all spring hangers and the rear crossmember. These are hot spots and more often than not, tend to go first. CJ frames are two C-channels welded together at the centers.
