Im looking to put beefier axles under my cherokee and a friend of mine suggested an isuzu 12 bolt.

Are there any years that are better than others? different WMS lengths or even different gears?

Just looking for as much info as i can possiably get on the axle before i give it the go ahead.

Thanks in advance

Isuzu 12-bolts are pretty tough axles. Mine has done just fine with 35s and others have run much larger rubber than that.

They were primarily found in Troopers and come in 3 widths:
~58" mid 87-91
~61" 92-94
~63" 95-97
There is also a "modified" 12-bolt, parts for which are generally not interchangeable with the regular 12-bolt, 98-02, also ~63".

Gears:
mid-87 through 91 are 4.56 or 4.77 (rare) gears.
92-97 are all 4.56.
96-02 are all 4.30.

5.38 gears are available aftermarket.

Lockers:
mid 87-97: Aussie or ARB
98-02: ARB

The Aussie locker and 5.38 gears are available at Independent4x.com.

you could also do ISUZU D44, leef sprung pre98 have disc brakes and use all normal 30 spline sgears and stuff

gears availlibe are 4.10 auto's 4.30's auto, 96 and 97 have 4.30 both

2wd drive have D44 with 4.56
