: International Scout Power Steering?
cspieler 06-10-2010, 08:08 PM I have a 1980 Int Scout Traveler with power steering. The PS fluid is low so i went to kragen to get more and they gave me clutch fluid and said its all the same stuff. Have you guys heard this? is it safe to put into my Scout?
Rock Tractor 06-10-2010, 08:16 PM It all depends on your tire pressure and what type or bearing grease you are running.
BeefCakeScout 06-10-2010, 08:17 PM Same stuff. I always used regular brake fluid in my clutch master cylinder. But for the cheapest route, I use atf in my power steering pump.
fullthrottle(tm sct) 06-10-2010, 08:49 PM I thought squeezing a couple virgins dry was the trick to keeping it lubed right ?
Provience 06-10-2010, 08:56 PM Wow, created an account and everything just for this....You probably could have hunted down some nice high quality specialty hydraulic fluid if you wanted.

It would have been less effort and less painful to tell the retard behind the counter you want fucking ps fluid.

If it is DOT 4, run it. If you have the optional Nissan Patrol pump on it, run anti-freeze in it.
ChiScouter 06-11-2010, 07:20 AM Brake FLUID, automatic transmission FLUID, powersteering FLUID, etc, are all scams perpetuated by the big oil companies in order to get you to buy stuff you don't need. Its all just fluid that just transfers pressure, water will do the same and is easier on the enviroment if you have a leak. Run water in all those systems and let the big oil companies rot. If you live in a northern climate just add salt for winter use so it doesn't freeze. Some of you guys just make this too complicated or more likely you are secret agents for big oil that have infiltrated the board to spread their propoganda.

Nah, we just sit around and wait for dumbass questions to be asked.
scout800 06-11-2010, 08:28 PM Never fear, I have a Gatorade bottle full of PS fluid waiting at all times, where do I need to send it?

Ohh, awesome! now I know where to ask: Is there some sort of cheap homemade solution that will wipe out all body rot and rust, cant spend more than $10 though?
Also experimented with different fluid for PS and found that Downey Fabric softener mixed 1:1 with Windex works the best, I think it also added about 30 horsepower. Could save you some money also.
1tonIHs2 06-12-2010, 12:59 AM Not home made but it will remove all the rusted panels you want.:flipoff2:

You don't visit VatoZone very often do you. They actually have "clutch fluid" in generic bottles. Funny thing is, they can sell it for more than brake fluid. Personally, I have always used ATF in my PS pumps. I even used 10-30 in my ranch truck for about 3 years with no issues. I wonder if the newb realizes I'm actually dead serious about that.
EDIT: Hooray newb.....you made it 2 pages!
