I got a front Dana 44 sitting around at my shop, we tore it down for parts, it had front drum breaks, and every thing on it was minny, I am almost 90% sure its a front Dana 44 its full width, and passenger sidedrop, I think I saw a tag that was dated 1967? is this a 30 spline inner 19 spline outer even the shafts are small, I am wondering if any thing on it is worht messing with, all the waggy Dana 44 stuff I used to mess with seemed much bigger, what else could this axle be?:confused:

sounds like a 44 with the old 260 u-joints in it. You can upgrade to new shafts that use 297/760 joints.

Open or closed knuckle, and king pins or ball joints?

My brother's '70 Blazer had a drum brake 44 with the small joints. They switched to disks either '71 or '72, not sure when they changed the joints, but for sure by '73. The later model shafts fit the housing/side gears fine, we also swapped the knuckles on out for disk stuff. You can use the stock knuckes with disks with a little grinding, the bolt pattern is the same, just clocked a little different.

If its a closed knuckle, it could be a D27.

erikb had a 72 with the smaller joints and upgraded. check out his website for the info. he did not have drums though.

Get the BOM off the front center tube, maybe long or short side.

If it's a 67 Chevy it'l have the 5-74x ujoints. Chevy didn't goto the 5-260x until 70, give or take a year depending on what it came out of.
