: Marlin Crawler Toybox
HyCaliberConsecrator 10-20-2002, 09:37 PM Anyone out there have an opinion on the Toybox? I plan on running the 4.7:1 model with my SM 465, 4 speed case, 4.10's in the Cruiser axles and 38's. Let me here some opinions or suggestions. Thanks.
Late,
HCC
Mustard Dog 10-20-2002, 10:19 PM I will be getting one this week. It's gonna run behind a 350 and SM420 to the 3 speed case. I'm just gonna run standard mini-truck t-case internals which should give me appox. 170:1.
Will give an update after T-giving weekend ;)
6.54 x 4.7 x 2 x 4.1 = 252 to 1
Hmm, that seems pretty damn low for a big V8
I would start with the stock reduction box, you can always upgrade later when you have to pull one of the many adapter plates to fix a leaking gasket.....
What do I know
Karl
KrustyKruiser 10-21-2002, 08:55 AM Make sure to add both Reddog' and John Pardi's tcase savers (Reddog's goes across the top, and Pardi's goes across the back) - You'll spend about $300, but it will be worth it. Carry a spare nose cone with you also (or upgrade to the Wardens billet one). Just my 2 cents.

Talk to Cruzilla, I think Scott has that exact set up - and has been running it for over 2 yrs! He showed me a demo outside his shop a couple of months ago, waaaaay slow!! Supposed to be quieter and shorter than the the RockBox.
I hope to be throwing my ToyBox onto my SM420 early next week if I can get my rolling frame back and into my garage by this weekend!!
I hope to have a write up sometime shortly after I get it all together - first of the year!?!?
cruzila 10-21-2002, 11:05 AM Well I am biased as I designed it with Marlin.
I like it. Been using a 72 3speed case with no "savers" just to see how it holds up and since it went in in 2000............no breaks.
A little secret I want to let out is the split case is coming.........no idea on time yet but it needs to be the best so many things need to be considered.
Scott
ranger 10-21-2002, 12:38 PM Anyone have a link or a picture of the case saver John Pardi makes?:skull:

You must be a saint of a wheeler - easy on the happy peddle! :D Glad to hear you do not have case savers - the TLC case is tough, but its one piece of the drivetrain I would not want to see go bye bye (eh, fc?)
Good to hear a split case version is on the way - I know many will be in line for those.
Andy
morgan 10-21-2002, 01:33 PM As a point of reference, this is what a 2F, SM465 and NP203 (2:1) GRB did to an unprotected 4spd-era tcase:
http://www.birfield.com/~morgan/tech/Bruce_Millers_dead_tcase-med.jpg
Tires were 35s or 36s at the time, vehicle was a heavy FJ60. That's Bruce Miller's dead tcase, busted at CM2001.

Do you have a pic of you Pardi case saver? Ranger was asking for a pic (you may not have noticed it above).

I do, and I replied with two URLs that are rife with pics of Pardi's tcase saver, Andy!
None of the pics are super clear but there are several to give him a composite idea. Thus the two URLs rather than one or two pics.
Here is one pic:

HyCaliberConsecrator 10-21-2002, 07:14 PM Thanks for all of the input guys. I just spoke with Marlin tonight and he is currently out of the SM465 adapter plates. He is going to call me at the shop tomorrow with some more info. He seems like a really laid back guy with a good attitude so I'm stoked about doing business with him. Does anyone have any links or phone numbers for the case plates. I forgot to mention that my junk is powered by the stock 6 cyl. engine but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I can't wait 'til tomorrow to order this thing!!!
Thanks again,
HCC

does anybody think it would be worthwhile emulating this beast on hte split case?
in case the split case, breaks itself in half? i havent had a problem, yet, but i imagine with lower gears and bigger tyres, it will strain it a lot!!
any ideas? anything been made before?

The split case is a good deal beefier and can handle the extra torque of doublers, but, as they say, it certainly wouldnt hurt. If the back of the split case is flat and no ribbing interferes, then go for it.
freds40 10-22-2002, 12:11 AM Marlin is a great guy for info. Luckily I live in Fresno So I've seen him at work and had a chance to pick his brain. I'm heading down there again pretty quick because he says he has a ToyBox display and I'm pretty interested. Great group of guys to deal with.
Mustard Dog 10-22-2002, 06:52 AM Ordered my Box yesterday:D It's going in after Frostoberfest:D :D
HyCaliberConsecrator 10-23-2002, 04:33 PM Right On!!! Ordered mine up on Tuesday. Dan said the 465 plates should be in by the end of the week. Hope to see it in a week or so.
Hell yeah!

Got you beat fawker, mine showed up at the BENDER:skull:BARN today, with the internals already installed:D :D :flipoff2:
HyCaliberConsecrator 10-23-2002, 08:20 PM Congrats MD:flipoff2: What I wouldn't do to live in Cali. Don't bust my balls but what do you mean by "with the internals already installed." Keep me posted with some install secrets.
Thanx,
HCC
Mustard Dog 10-23-2002, 08:47 PM I replied to this already and the post ended up in limbo:rolleyes:
From what I understood, when you got the box you had to provide your own gears from a mini truck t-case.
I haven't seen mine yet, but the boys said it showed up complete and ready to install:D
HyCaliberConsecrator 10-23-2002, 09:42 PM Dude! This thing sells for like $1800. It better come with the frickin' gears! I assumed, by looking at the website, the package I bought came with both adapter plates and the complete box w/ shifter. Hopefully I'm right. Damn, How am I going to sleep tonight.
Thanks for the info,
HCC
Jason M 10-23-2002, 09:49 PM :shaking:
Now when did you buy these adapters????
(perferably the sm420/minitcase ones)
HyCaliberConsecrator 10-23-2002, 10:01 PM The adapters are part of the package. There's one for the back of the SM465 to bolt it to the Toybox and one for the back of the 'Box to bolt it to the 4 speed case. These questions are starting to freak me out:confused:
Confused,
HCC

$1400 for the ToyBox, and you get the gears!! Its ready to bolt right on when you get it!!
Here's a pic of mine (came in an AA box ;) ), Marlin even threw in t-case mount for a crossmember and I got a nice shifter linkage from Cruzila this week (Thanks Scott!!!!:D   ).
HyCaliberConsecrator 10-23-2002, 11:09 PM :D :D :D :D
Excellent! Thanks for the reassurance. Now, if I could only fast forward time.
Going to bed,
HCC:zzz:
Mustard Dog 10-24-2002, 08:01 AM When we were starting to look into it I got quoted prices without gears. ;)
HyCaliberConsecrator 10-24-2002, 06:24 PM Ah, It's all becoming clear to me now. Spoke with Dan at Marlin Crawler today and he set me staight. It's comin' with gears!:D
Thanks for the clarification MD.

climbermike 10-24-2002, 09:33 PM HCC - :flipoff2: Once you open the box, wipe your spooge off the it dude :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
HyCaliberConsecrator 10-25-2002, 05:28 PM Sorry, I used it all up on your ARB fridge. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
ShipRekd1 10-25-2002, 07:26 PM No! Not the fridge!!!
coyote 10-26-2002, 07:29 PM Ok...anybody got one of these with an automatic and how is the shifting of the box? I assume being so small it doesn't use synchro's so it should be like the standard...shutdown and shift.....
