Just a quick note to his friends on the board to let you know he was admitted to UCD med center today. The Docs have no clue what's going on. A little background: Bill got started to get sick shortly after the 45 run on. Thinking no big deal. A few weeks later at the 55 run (I can't believe he still went) he can hardly move and is attached to a chair the whole weekend. Ok this is getting bad, time to see a Doc. The original opinion was Giardia sp. (contaminated water from lake alpine). That wasn't it. So now he is being poked and probed in an attempt to figure out whatever he has.

Kathy, that sucks!

I didn't realized Bill was so sick at the 55 run. He looked a lot thinner than the last time I saw him.

I hope he gets well soon.

another long day at the hospital. His liver function is not where it should be (well, duh!!! he hasn't eaten in 2 weeks). The docs also topped off his blood with 2 bags of A neg and 1 plasma. Waiting for tests sucks. They are doing a process of elimination because they have no clue either.

Thank-you for all the well wishes. I will print this and give it to him in the morning

Bill came home from the hospital this evening. He has been stable for the last 24 hrs. So they figure he can lay around at home just as well as at the hospital. A final diagnosis (I hope) will come on friday. The docs are still waiting on some tests and a biopsy. It is looking like Ulceritive Colitis. Then he can start his meds and get to feeling better.

Kathy and Bill:

This is good news (sort of) - sounds like the medicos have zeroed in on the ailment, which hopefully means the have a treatment lined up. Personally I think it might be caused by gas ststion cookies;)

All the very best, and get well soon.

Hey everyone, thanks for the well wishes.

I've been home a few days now and am feeling physicaly better but the symptoms have not changed yet. Doc says meds should start working in 2 or 3 days, which would be today or tomm.
They've given me Prednisone, a powerful steroid, for the what they called a suggestive diagnosis. So it's just wait and see.
Doesn't look like I'll be doing any work for about a month.

again Thanks everyone,

Bill

Bill was admitted to UCD again on Tuesday. He was topped off with 2 pints of blood and about a gallon of saline. Today (thurs) there are more tests scheduled. He has a new doc who is one of the top Gastroenterologists (GI docs) in the nation. Top doc isn't confidant in the original diagnosis (ulcerative colitis) he is thinking more likeCrohn's disease (http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/digest/pubs/crohns/crohns.htm) IMHO 2 pints of blood is alot for 5 days. Hopfully we will have an answer soon

My brother in-law has Crohn's. Every once in awhile he is laid up on the couch for a couple days. Otherwise, he is a pretty cool guy.

If it is Crohn's (which I dearly hope it is not), I recommend that you research till you find a doctor that specializes (rare) or is very familiar. Do not accept any doctor just because he appears to be confident in his treatment. This is where by b-law made his first mistake. Because it is not common, and obviously hard to diagnose, many doctors do not know all of the FACTS. Basically, the affected portion of the colon would have to be removed.

Sorry about the rant. What ever you got, kick its ass.
