: Scout 80/800 Factory rear axle location
Scout Dude 06-13-2010, 02:40 PM I lost my notepad somewhere and therefore lost my reference number. Can someone measure to the rear axle centerline from some common reference point on the frame? (Body mounts, or something...I don't have any bumpstop mounts or shock mounts anymore)
Edit: If you know how much you have moved your axle backwards and can measure from a common point on the frame, I can use that too.
plug ugly 06-13-2010, 03:41 PM I have 22.5 inch from center of front hanger bolt to center of axle tube.
Scout Dude 06-13-2010, 03:46 PM I cut off everything related to the stock suspension years ago. I have no way to measure from the front hanger...
plug ugly 06-13-2010, 04:17 PM gotcha. I have a frame sitting in my garage In rocklin if you want to come look for yourself at a point you do have. I wont be back in town till weds.
Scout Dude 06-13-2010, 05:07 PM I am out of town starting on Wednesday...Hopefully someone else will reply before next weekend (I'm done for this weekend)
Scout Dude 06-14-2010, 07:35 AM Here's some pics to show what I am dealing with:

IDScout 06-14-2010, 03:52 PM I still have the stock rear forward spring hangers for some unknown reason so here goes. From the bottom edge of the rear of the frame to the center of the rear forward spring hanger, I am measuring 50''. It looks like that part of your frame has been untouched so you should be able to repeat that measurement.
Using Plug Uglys measurements, your axle should be right at 27.5" from the rear of the bottom edge of the frame rail.
Hope that helps.
plug ugly 06-14-2010, 04:03 PM I can confimr on wednesday if you want.
Scout Dude 06-14-2010, 09:31 PM I had a friend measure a stock Scout in his yard and he measured 27" from the back of the frame to the CL of the axle. I have something f-ed up somewhere since I had my axle set at approx 24" from CL to the back of the frame and I am measuring the wheelbase at approx 99" and the front should be pushed out 1" from stock.
Anyone care to measure from the edge of frame on the front to the front axle centerline?
plug ugly 06-14-2010, 10:42 PM IIRC, the cl to rear spring hanger center is 20", of course, Im guessing you dont have those hangers opn either.

Nope, I don't have the front factory mounts either...I guess I'll see what you can come up with on Wednesday...or I can check out at my friend's wrecking yard this weekend so don't go to too much trouble.
MochaMike 06-15-2010, 09:39 PM In your second pic, opposite the jackstands, is the where you grounded off the bumpstops.
Can you see the old eld marks?
Edit: it looksnlikebyou can see them in the first pic.
Measure their center.
The frame still has the factory holes. I see one near the rear. Mike measure from there.
MochaMike 06-16-2010, 05:12 PM I'm out of town until Saturday..
plug ugly 06-17-2010, 09:33 AM front axle should be approx 9" forward of the leading edge of the oval hole nearest where the front springs rear hanger would be.

Measure their center.
Yep. Right there is the where the old bumpstop was. Drop a plumb line/plumb bob from there.

Scout Dude 06-19-2010, 02:12 PM Here's what I have right now:
I measured everything except the actual wheelbase (Which is calc'd by the program). The 26.156" is from the back of the frame to the center of the bumpstop grind marks (Which shouldn't be the CL of the axle on a leafsprung vehicle). So, can someone confirm that the front axle is actually pushed back from stock? I'm not sure that I ever actually measured where the front was before I swapped leafs. I tried to measure a Scout at the local wrecking yard but they are closed today.

this is the measurement for where the front should be, and you should still have the oval hole. Ill be back on Tuesday if you want to come look at mine, IM just up in Rocklin.

My front is 9.5" in front of the leading edge of the oval hole. I think my frame shrunk from all the welding:laughing:
I am out of town this week until Thursday. I'll probably drop by J&W after work next Friday to measure a stock Scout to what I am missing
Thx for your help.
guidolyons 06-20-2010, 02:16 PM Yes, the axle center line will be slightly forward of where the axle hits the bum at full compression due to the leaf spring lengthening and the angle of the dangle on the shackle. You are .738" off :flipoff2:
Don't you want to stretch the rear an inch or 2 anyway? I can't wait to see the rest of Scout Dude V2.0:grinpimp:
I have no idea if this will help since it is including the body and bumpers in the measurements.

1) According to everyone's measurements, my front is already .5" forward and my rear is 1.5" backwards (should have a wb of 102") with a wb of 100.75" (which I measured and confirmed that my dwg was correct). Either way, I am not getting enough travel out of the rear d-line. I think I am going to push the rear back approx 5". So, my fuel cell and cradle will probably be for sale soon.
2) I was 103" before...I wanted to stay around the same. Also, this is around version 6 or 7:laughing:
3) Thx for the pic but not much of a help...
I am going to draw up a new fuel cell design and build it to fit a longer wb.

I always liked your scout before...ok so I'm looking forward to Scout Dude V8.0 :grinpimp:
