: ICBM 2002-Mud Fest

Hey Guys,

Just got back from our 2nd annual ICBM (I Cruised Barnwell Mountain) statewide Lone Star Land Cruiser run.

As the title states, it rained. And rained. And rained.

Luckily the "mountain" is sandy, loamy soil so it dried quickly in areas and in others the traction in spite of the mud was still pretty good.

Some of the nastier stuff was simply impassable this weekend.

Some of the Pirate guys there were Texican, Jason H, Gunracer 1, Kipper, LePage and FJ40Tom.

Check out the pictures...

Texican's daughter Kristy resurected her FJ-40 from the grave, er I mean river and it ran great until the last trail and something let loose in the transfer case.....hopefully it is just linkage probs..

Finally, a big hat's on....or off for Butch Baker, aka Texican for doing a fantastic job of keeping the lot dry with his borrowed Circus tent and good cooking throughout the weekend.

We had a great time. Well worth the 5 hour drive through a torrential down pour to get there.

I'll post pics when I find time.

Nolen, thanks for the pull-out Saturday night. Blew a tire (not bead), but that now gives me an excuse to get rid of my crap 32" A/T's.

Later,
mike.

yea the monsoon was pretty impressive friday night. i had a couple of guys with us that were in a tent. they swore that a river was running under neath them. and the wind was blowing so hard, that the tent was folding over and slaping them in the face.
it was great to meet you butch, and many others that i have allready forgot your names. i just really suck at names. and there were a shit load of cruiser at the old camp.
great pix nolen and thanks for the pull to level ground. i am going to pull the tank from my other 62 and see about making one that the rockwells don't bash the shit out of.
the dual rear tires are very dangerous, i don't recommend that any one every run them. i picked up a 20+# rock on dewoody and threw it out of the rear tires at about 20 mph. it went way up in the air, then came down. it hit my roll cage, tore a hole threw the roof, and landed in my daughter lap. i thank god it didn'y hit a foot farther back. it scared the hell out of here but didn't really hurt her.
i had a good time and gave the rockwells a good thrashing. but i was denied many climbs because of the rain, and shitty tires. and now i need some more springs, i wrapped the shit out of the front ones. mike

Well, I had a great time at ICBM 2002, even through the rain. Finally got a chance to put the SM465 conversion through its paces, and all I can say is: I was missing out! It was great to be able to crawl up/down the hills with no throttle input!

I didn't leave unscathed though... Lost a rear taillight on the aborted night-run, and sheared off my short-side hub studs yet again on a steep descent. Looks like that lock-right is a pain in the ass for my hub studs. God I need an ARB!

I'll post a link to my pics later...

OK, the camo FJ-62 belongs to Gunracer1. That is the one I wrote the article about in TT a couple of issues ago. It is the $1700 Cruiser, actually down to $1600 since he sold the Cruiser axles and went with the Rockwells.

Deal with the Devil......bite me.

Here is Gary's junk....

Hey Nolen, do you happen to have a shot of it sitting level? I know this guy de-arched a set of OME springs for the SO and I'm curious at how high the vehicle sits, I've thought about doing this myself but want to see if it's worth the effort.

Does he have cooling issues with the 502? I guess if he's an engine builder he must know all the tricks, but I'm curious...

No, he is running the Be Cool FJ60 radiator, idled all over Moab in the heat with the AC running.
BTW, your ears should have been burning around midnite, when the topic of "where's Henry" came up and your compadre's ratted out on ya'.....made for some interesting campfire wit........

I took no level shots of his Cruiser this weekend.

For record, he removed the :rainbow: Geolanders and has a set of 35" MT/R's on it now.
