It won't be going through inspection. Word around here is that NJ state inspection is going away thanks to the great Chris Christie (no sarcasm, he really is great)

The 8" may or may not survive under there, I'm staying with 37s for now so hopefully i will be ok. Next edition will have spider 9 front end or sixty9

hi-9 because it is strong, and keeps my drive shaft higher than any other set up short of portals.

Great build man. Truck looks nice. Is that the absolute tire size that front diamond can handle? The rear for sure is a different story!

I would say 37 is the limit without constant breakage. Ill be upgrading to a sixty9 or nother hi9 setup at the end of the year

I figure I should continue this thread since we'll be doing a good bit of work on the rest of this build. Pete's work on the front end is top notch so the hard part is done.

Today we got the new rear axle slung under with a set of LII Super Duty U-boltless spring perches.

Just a suggestion stemming from experience with that type of u-bolt plate.... cut some DOM spacers to go between the 2 plates to keep them from squeezing together and breaking the bolts. :D

Good advice, I see your point. I've been beating on mine which only have 1/2" bolts for a few years now with no issues. On Jordan's I stepped up to a 5/8" fine thread for extra piece of mind. I'll probably add spacers just in case.

Today Tim finished up the traction bar, and I fixed my Aisin hubs and painted them. They were not disengaging, and one of them had been mangled, so i took em both apart, bent some stuff back in place, re-greased, painted, and put back on; now they are good. Wheels are at the machine shop getting bored out, should be back Monday.

couldn't you just re-run the elocker wiring from the rear up to the front locker since you wont have the elocker in the hi 9? no additional wiring just rerouting...

Not yet, my man just wants to drive his truck for a bit before we cut anything else apart. He has big visions and I look forward to making them a reality down the road.

There's a lot of new things for us in this build so the progress has been all over the place. The middle of comp season really kills us as well.

Right now we are working on the tcase crossmember/bellypan and getting driveshafts on their way. Hopefully by the end of the week we will be pretty much buttoned up.

I think maybe your seeing the pic at full droop. The lowers are pretty triangulated, but at droop the axle moves driver about 4" cuz of my panhard. Therefor the passenger lower is straight in that pic. As for oversteer, not surr since i havent driven it yet lol!

I really didn't want to make the outriggers any wider, I was concerned about stress on the frame (I'm not a big fan of the frames on the 05+ tacoma/4runner's). When I did the math, there was only a 1 degree difference when triangulating the lowers more. If I had moved the links up on the axle end to bring the roll axis down, than the upper at the axle would have been making love to the engine mount at full stuff.

Thanks for the fab props; if I was included in compliment. :D

SilverSeven, what material did you use for the skid? It looks like star-board.

SilverSeven
08-04-2010, 06:28 PM
I think it has been mentioned, its UHMW; a heavy duty plastic

* UHMW is 6 times more abrasion resistant than steel.
* Virtually unbreakable with no notch sensitivity.
* Non-marking and nonabrasive.
* Available with a non-skid surface where traction is needed.
* Low friction coefficient makes it slick in any weather.
* Lightweight. Floats in water. 1" x 12" x 12" = 5 pounds.
* No cold embrittlement, works from -115ºF to + 200ºF.
* Can be cold or heat bent to meet required shapes.
* Simple to install and requires virtually no maintenance.
* Nonconductive, nonmagnetic, and non-fibrous.
* We can make UHMW that is conductive or magnetic and we can add fiber.
* Absorbs no water and is impervious to most chemicals.
* Doesn't chip, peel, crack or rot.
* Impervious to marine borers and barnacle resistent.
* Environmentally friendly, contains no harsh chemicals.
* Custom colors available.

Finally got the HD mount on. I now have 3, yes 3 drivetrain supports! I think my transfer cases will be pretty secure. And some random shots. Waiting on some spacers from diamond because the caliper bracket/spacer setup was too skinny, the caliper wasn't hanging far enough over the rotor to where it was actually scraping the outside surface. Next is the bed cage or flatbed, haven't decided yet.

The UHMW is from Mcmaster carr. It's easily cut with a jigsaw or circular saw. Runs about $200 for the sheet we got for Jordan.

Not bad, and I bet it's a lot easier to deal with than 3/16s sheet especially getting it off to work on the tranny.

Thanks man. I have to get it on a jack and go through all the bolts on the front end, something is loose and my camber is F'd. There are several little things I need to do, like a set of helper springs, some limit straps, re-route my air intake, secure all things in the engine bay, exhaust, drive flange O-rings, get everything wired back up, and workout any bugs that remain.

Then I should be good :D

well I don't want to drive it to rausch until I am 100% confident in its road-worthiness, i.e. I want to give things ample time to fall off before I make a real journey. HOWEVER, if I can find a trailer and tow up, I am game anytime.
