I'm having a hard time finding any 2wd IH truck front leaves, which are a perfect match in hight for a shackle flip, for the front of my 64 (travelall, BD220 pwr) I have heard that the chevy front springs are the same length as the IH 2wd, but as far as arch and rate, I am not sure. I am looking to match hight with a shackle flip in back, Between the weight of the BD (Much heavier than a SV), the PTO winch, and the negative arch of the stock chevy spring, I 'm thinking that somewhere around a 6"-8" lift Chevy would match hight. To take up the extra compressed spring length, the shackle is going to have to be longer, attitionally, since alot of the compression of the spring is sit in, I am probably going to have to set back the hanger a little, but then again at droop... Does anyone have any experience running this setup or anything similar?
Thanks

You need to move the shackle mount back one "spot" on the frame... drill the rivets out, slide it back a few inches to the next spot where they all line up, and bolt it back in.
Then get some 3/8" flat and build some new shackles a little longer.
73-87 Chevy 4x4 front springs are what you want.
I did some math and, on my '72 1/2T 4x4 Travelall, 6000lbs GVWR with just a 392/auto under the hood (no winch or anything)... and the #s suggested to me, that just about any 4" lift for a Chevy would result in about 2" of lift on my Travelall.
I worked with my front and rear axle weights (as weighed), compressed/static ride height of the springs, the original IH spec spring rates, the spring rates for the lift springs, and the free-arch numbers for the lift springs to come up with my approximation.
If you could find a Chevy 8" lift spring with the same spring-rate as a their 4" variety, but with 4" more free-arch, you'd probably be at 6" net lift.

That is about what I figgured, still have to do something about the downward pinion angle (resulst from running the springs in the 2wd location) I Liked thge extra castor you get from that setup on my 68 1200, but it tore up joints too fast. Probably just run wedges till I can ditch the CK 44, then grind the perch on the housing, turn the other and turn the knucles a bit for handlin. Also, Does anyone know off hand if the spline count on the front output of a NP 200 is the same as a 205?? (lookin to go CV in the front w/ a chev shaft and yoke)
thanks
