: Divorce 205 Behind 3rz prerunner tranny?

Ok, so what are the drawbacks aside from the obvious negatives? As in putting a giant heavy case that will require butchering the floorboard of the taco to keep it from hanging in the weeds...

Here's my deal.. I have an 03 double cab taco. 3rz/prerunner auto- 2wd obviously... Truck was rolled and body is trashed... Plan on either doing a custom formula type chassis on frame leaving engine and firewall in place or transplanting this setup into my 86 2wd pickup...

Reasons I have thought about this route...
I already have a good dodge divorce np205 with the appropriate shafts to make a hybrid... twin sticked as well

Inchworm adapter to go on the prerunner is somewhat pricey and then i would have to buy and build a gear drive case...

Could swap in a w56/gear using w59 bell, but would have to buy the setup as well as the manual ecu for the engine...

Looks like a decent option price wise as well as dependability with clocking and mounting options for the case, as long as one isn't worried about packaging...

Thoughts, comments, bitches or gripes??? :flipoff2:

Also plan on running a yota front or gm 60...

Were I to chose a divorced case, I'd consider a Nissan 7204x4 case-I believe they were divorced on the older trucks. All geardrive, too if I remember right.

Obviously the 205 would be overkill, but also only a 2:1 (about) low range.

Sounds like it'd be a bit ugly, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be fun!:D

It's not even 2:1, it's only 1.96:1. I think you need to weigh the cost of a low gear kit for that boat anchor against the cost of a prerunner adapter.

I know, its a hard pill to swallow since i've got it laying there in front of me for free...

What do you think... 3rz/auto/205 yota axles w/ 5.29's on 37's....
would low range be low enough for general trail riding?

Ok.. new idea since I have a yota case in the shop as well...

OTT adapter and divorce the gear drive case behind the prerunner tranny...

Thoughts, or am i trying to be too big of a cheap ass...

Also, do people run any slip in their connecting shaft on divorce setups< make it easier to install.. Double cardigan joint with flanges on both ends?

Bolting the flanges together would be the trick, but a spacer to make them hubcentric would probably be needed...

put that 205 up for sale and work on getting the stuff you need to do it right. i have a 205 in my chev and YES the 1.96:1 low range is definately lagging. also they suck up a bunch of power as all those gears inside are spinning whether in 2wd or not to keep the gear oil splashing around on the brearings. wouldn't matter on a big v8 but on a small v6 i think it would make a big difference.

does the 2wd tranny not have a slip style output?
using the cage from a double cardan as a driveshaft will work...just don't use flexy rubber mounts on your t-case

nope My prerunner tranny has a flange...

so your saying solid mount the divorce case?
wouldn't you want to have the divorce case mounted in the same fashion as the engine and tranny?
