zig zag (http://www.overlanddynamics.com/products.htm)

looks very flexible BUT very frightenning!!

if revolver shackles are thought to be unsafe, what would one
think of this product?

i know i would'nt want to be in a rig running this zig-zag in any steep situation, not stopping uphill and trying to back off
and not downhill having to apply even slightly the brakes:eek: :(

Agreed.

Why would this be an issue?

Did you look carefully at the design?
The springs cannot both seperate from the body at the same time.

So what is the problem?

Sure they can. I don't see anything that would keep it from happening. He even says in the description that both sides can separate under high power/traction situations.

Sort of, But not much, It is not like they can fall away from the frame by a foot, it is no more than an inch or two...

it would just make your leafs act like a coil suspension

wow that site if full of some "interesting" ideas. hhmm......still seems to me like there are other methods that are less complicated that can net the same "killer" flex they are showing. :D But hey if they like it, run it and see what happens.

UPDATE!

I was over at Overland today checking out the shop and these items. First off Jim and Tommy are great guys who know their shit. Talked circles around me (ain't hard to do, yeah yeah I've heard it all :flipoff2:)

The zig zag looks very interesting. I too would like to see how it reacts in the situation above. However it's nothing that a normal double shackle set up wouldn't do. Hell if mine weren't done, I might consider trying it out.

On an side note the "Stinger" and built in skid plate are freaking bad ass! I WILL be throwing one on the rear of the cruiser. If anyone can bash it, I CAN! More updates to follow.

They fellows at Overland sound like the have an interesting background. Degreed automotive engineers, interesting. How many do they have? Time will tell how good their ideas are.

Anyone try these yet?

I'm thinking about trying it on a sua cruiser. They can be locked out(in?) during hill climbs.

I would think if you were running them that you would need a sway bar

But I don't know I have never seen them on the trail

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I might make my own, I like the rear yoke/d-shaft gaurd, nice!

They are lockable.

Have you called them yet?
not sure they make them for the 40 yet.
But I am sure that if you ask nicely they might ;)

i hate the zigzag, but i also hate my rear leaf spring setup and traction bar

that yoke d-shaft guard and diff skid is pretty cool though

But I am sure that if you ask nicely they might ;) I have talked to them via email. They have a DIY kit that will work on a 40. 40's do have 2.5" springs, correct?

Yes I would like to hear a real 1st hand opinion of someone that has seen these in action, not a typical PCE version of why they suck:rolleyes: :flipoff2: ..............but he hates leafs,LOL

I thought massive articulation was a fad from a few years ago. I thought we had learned better by now. I can't remember the last time I saw an articulation competition. Trust me, I know the advantage of having 4 wheels in contact versus 2 or 3, but just allowing a wheel to touch doesn't help much in my book. It seems to me that these guys have used their engineering skills to develop something they can sell to rob you of your hard earned $$$. These guys are educated, and they are marketing something that they know will sell. Like the revolvers, I think it's a gimmic. Ok you can lock it in or out, but if you have to make these kinds of choices with your suspension, you probably shouldn't use it. Stick with "conventional" suspension designs or new but proven designs. Spend your money on something that will improve traction, BETTER TIRES. My $0.02!

Not only has this been bought up like 100 times (and re-brought up like this post), but it is still a horrible idea. Great for a ramp champ if you want to brag about your RTI but completely worthless in real world wheelin...

EDIT: And never EVER would I want to see that on the road!
