I will be in the Panama City - Miramar Beach area for a week in September, and have never driven on a beach. Where is it legal to drive on the beach and how do you get the passes? Thanks.

There is no beach driving in the panhandle. The sand is too soft.

i believe there are some trails on eglin airforce base where you can drive on the beach. you have to get a pass to ride on the trails there but its only like $10-20 and is good for a year from what i have heard

with all the oil washing up, seems like they wouldnt let anyone drive on the beach?

I thought about that also, with the oil they may be getting very sensative about it. I am not familiar with Florida however, and have seen people talking about being able to drive on the beach in the Cape San Blas area. Is this maybe not considered the pan handle, or is it an area that is not well known? Or, is this false information? Thanks.

Years ago you could drive cape San Blas, not sure about now. Washington Co. north of PC use to have a large OHV area, mainly sand. A trail exists from PC along the inter coastal on the north side running east and west. Last time I rode it a few years ago and was about 15 miles of sand and mild hills. A power plant on north bay has some roads and trails, I think it is a hunting lease now but not locked.

I believe cape san blas is closed to beach driving now, but could be wrong.

anyways, this is why the gulf coast beaches are so much better than florida's atlantic coast.

st. augustine, daytona beach, crescent beach, jax beach... all look like parking lots...
