Hey Jim, looks pretty darn good. I was kind of thinking the same as Rude. But Mine will be different anyway :D Back to the garage slave, you have orders to fill!!!!!;) ;)

Oh, it may be my eyes but did you use a different size tube on the headlight guards that the center hoop?

Nice Shrock, just the way it is ! :D

Shrock
10-21-2002, 04:44 PM
yeah the headlight hoop is 1.5" The main is 1.75. I can get a little tigther radius out of the smaller tube. The tube portion is easy enough to make changes on.

On making it narrower, what is your thinking here? Looks better or works better?

NC, I ordered your bumper from SmittyBilt. As soon as it gets here I will ship it to you. The chrome was on back order. :flipoff2:

I like the larger tube, just looks beefier! As far as the narrower bumper goes, take a look at the original design pic I sent you. I just liked the tubing running right along the side of the headlight frame. This would narrow it just a little. Know what I mean? Let me know if ya do! :D

As far as the Smittybilt comment, I have to borrow a line or 2 from Bill4est

Bahahahahahahaha :rainbow: :flipoff2:

NO NO NO Its all wrong !!!!

It's soposed to be angled OUT ! not in..... How are you gonna push up over the big rocks........

J/K I think it looks fine as is....

Sell me one with out the tubes on it? No mounting crap either.... Just the outside part and winch plate? (save me a few hours of fab work !)

Oh wait this isnt that 1/4 " stuff we were discussion on a different thread? :flipoff2: Is it?

Shrock

The winch basket is 1/4". The side pieces are 3/16" and the tube is .120 DOM (center) and HREW outer.

1/4" is NOT overkill when you have a 9000LB winch attached to it. :D

I can do a DIY kit for you, send me a PM or email.

i have to side with rude on this one, make it a little narrower. Other then that, it looks great. How much would you be selling one of those for?

Shrock
10-21-2002, 11:29 PM
OK, maybe I'll narrow it an inch or so. NC, I'll do yours how ever you like.

I wont know pricing until I make the second one. The first of anything always takes forever. I'm shooting for about $350 though.

Right there with you! I like the full width.
I want bumper banging before sheet metal crunching.

How much does it weigh?

Shrock
10-22-2002, 02:52 PM
Thanks guys. :D

I went and weighed it. It's 62lbs complete, without winch of course.

Shrock
10-23-2002, 11:17 AM
Well I guess this design is a keeper, so I welded it up and painted it. Here is the finished bumper. More pics are here:

Jim, that thing is awesome! You got me rethinking mine now! (wife asked my why I didn't order one like that. I said I didn't have a winch. I said I have the next best thing though......A WITCH that pulls at me all the time :D ) Seriously though, that thing rocks!!!!!!!!!

I'm In need of a bumper myself

Looks nice.

I had to say the above before I said the next part, otherwise you might figure out that I am an asshole.

it looks like the bumper is mounted up pretty high. This is no big deal until you look at the typical mounting location on the frame. Still no big deal until you really need to use that winch. If you are only mounting off the 4 bolt holes in the frame, the winch will try to rip the bumper off the front of the zuk.

Does the winch plate tie into anything other then those 4 bolts?

I point this out for others that might follow this thread.

My buddy had a popular winch bumper, and we winched some large loads with it. But when we hooked up a strap to the tow hooks on the upper surface, and tried to pop him out of a mud hole, the whole bumper rotated downward, and ripped off!

p.s. This new ad with the ringing telephone (netzero) has got to fucking go! Is that advertiser smoking crack or something? What idiots!

You are right and yes it does tie in elsewhere. If it only used the four factory holes, it would probably tear itself right off by rotating as you suggested.

I have had my winch mounted at this height for a long time with additional mounting points. I winched this big pig up a nasty hill with it w/o problems. It has to weigh double what the average samurai does. Also the recovery points are mounted low for snatching.

Hay James, you can take that thumbs down icon, flip it over, and insert it up your @$$! :flipoff2:
Believe it or not, I sent Jim a design (very rudimentary) that I wanted to make for myself and he took a design that he had and his bumper was the end result. I never in my life even saw that "Isuzu" bumper before in my life. Attached is the design I had in mind (without Winch) and the Isuzu bumper. I guess they are similar, but thats pretty ballsy to say he copied the design. Besides, who gives a shit, it's a free country. I know, I keep it that way! :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Geeezzzzz

We all know that "I" invented the internet so that fact that your reading this means that you have acknowledged that and have agreed to send me a royalty. Ill let it slide this time......

As far as bumpers go......Whats with painting em all black....Im surprised thats not an intelectual property item.... then y'all will have to cease and what ever or paint em pink....... I mean how many ways can you bend tube to make a bumper fit the same rig......

Time to hire the lawers to defend the patents... oh wait...... :flipoff2:

smack?

i didn't think it was smack......

listen Jim, since you have been a customer of mine in the past, for your trooper, i guess if i had a problem w/ it i would have e-mailed you directly. i had a bunch of guys e-mail me the link to this thread ...including my DAD...they all said the same thing........I will say IT DOES look like a suzuki dead ringer for my shit.....whether you meant it or not.......

fact is in the 2+ years i've been running my bumper, fabbing it and selling it, a ton of people have seen it......and i have a bunch of loyal customers....so add the 2 up

when you come out and say here's my "new" bumper and someone looks it and says......."hey that is just like this other one"...........well, you have to be prepared for that, just a fact. if you put yourself out there then your a candidate for smack :p

i understand sometimes things sink into our frame of reference w/ out even knowing it. I never claimed to have a 100% original design either, but come on, you have to admit it's fawkin close.

you can send me 12 that look similar, but here's one that looks exact :flipoff2:

http://www.independent4x.com/Images/bumpercompare.jpg

funny thing is, my brother has been trying to get me to build him a scaled down version of the bumper, for about a year, for his Sami.....just been too busy.......guess now i'll be copying shrockworks

(this is all in good fun Jim so don't get your panties in a bundle :flipoff2: , oh and i do like the lights....looks good!)

Well Matt from everything I know you are a cool guy and yes I have bought misc stuff from you in the past and probably would again. I assumed YOU did not have a problem with this since I'm sure you HAVE seen all the other bumpers that look like yours.

Having said that, EXACTLTY??? Give me a break. The bottom of yours looks *exactly* like an ARB or a Calmini right? The tube portion looks exactly like a Rock Ware and a whole lot like a Bulletproof a RockProof or a TJ ARB.

The two wings on the bottom portion of mine are made out of 2x4 rect steel with lights. Exactly like my rear bumpers....so they match...get it. Not plate like yours. There is *nothing* similar about the bottom other than the slight angled sweep from left to right, like about every other bumper on the market, and the fact that there is a winch in it.

The tube looks very similar, but there are plenty of differences there too. Yours angles forward prerunner style. Mine slants back. You have an extra piece of tube on the bottom by the winch, like an ARB, I dont.

Most Isuzu guys do not pay much attention to all the Jeep, Toyota, Land Rover, etc products on the market. I never did until I bought a Sammi then started building all kinds of stuff for various vehicles. Within their limited frame of reference, they think HAH! that looks like Matt's bumper. Your is probably the only similar bumper they have seen. What they dont know is that your bumper looks just like many that came before you.

It's a nice bumper. Dont get me wrong. It costs 2x what mine does, but it is a very nice bumper. Between the ARB and the Rock Ware bumpers below, I see nothing original in your bumper I would be copying.

I'm not trying to be a Richard, but I think you are flattering yourself, and the people emailing you have a very limited frame of reference, not a very good eye for detail, and should rightfully be emailing both of us that they are a rip-off of ARB, Calmini, Rockware...take your pick. Truly and completely original ideas are pretty rare in this game. I certainly dont claim mine is unique to anything other than the market which it is in, Samurai. I'm sure it has all been done b4.
