ok it is about time for me to get my dana 60 front under my jeep:D so i was looking at some of the outboard pics and threads and was wondering what designs are holding up and which have given up the goat? also could you include some pics of your setup? the board is kinda slow so i though i would stir the pot...

EDIT: ie...frame cracks, ripped off hangers, bab design?

When I last posted mine they'd been on for several years ;) outboards are really nothing new under the sun. I dont have any pics at the moment, but if wheeling piazza posts some mine are identical.

i outboarded mine by welding angle iron to the frame rail and then bolting annd welding the spring mounts/shackle mounts to the bottom of the angle piece. Eace peice of angle iron has a flat pice welded at a triangle to support the stress.(/_|) then i bolted and welded a crossmember to the front spring hangers(shackle reverse). This setup is holding up fine, but i plan on going to coils in the front....If i was going to stick to this design i would prob. gusset the angle iron pieces better the frame to locate the stress along a longer plane.

I made my out of 1/4" Angle Iron with 1/4" triangles welded at each end. I welded all four of the brackets to the frame then bolted them also for extra support. Here are a couple pics

haha theres nothing to really stress the frame out if you box it right.

1/4 angle with 1/4 plate over the top to make a triangle. I used a 1/4 plate and cut it to fit the shape to enclose it and then used a .188 sqaure to fill the gap between teh two mounts.

Heres some pictures.

I used a piece of rectangular 2"x3" tubing cut it into a triangle and inserted a piece of 1.75" .120 wall DOM the spring bushings fit nicely inside. Welded up and maounted it to the frame.

'Recently outboarded Scout 44's under my cj5. I had a bit of a concern ove rthe fact that the load would be outboard of the frame horns so opted not to hang the mounts on the side of the frame. Instead we just used 4" x 4" 1/4" angle iron and ran it from one side to the other with enough overhang to mount the spring hangers outboard. This gave us lots of area to weld to (inside, outside and bottom edges of the frame itself) and hopefully will add to the stiffness of the frame eliminating the chance of those ever present stress cracks that show up around the rivets and steering box mounts. The only extra fabbing other than cuting it to length was cutting a semi circle out of the bottom part of the angle iron to clear the steering box.

Sorry, the rig is still about a week away from trail duty (yayyyy :0)so no long term report for ya.

Can attach pics later if ya want. (no pics at work)

Hope it helps
