: TH400 quick Qs(rebuilt?)

I picked up a TH400 this weekend(along with an engine). Upon seperating th two, I got a look at the torque converter. It looked new. No dust on it... no grime... etc.

I'm getting ready to pull the pan off it. Is there anyway to tell if the tranny has been rebuilt? What about the torque converter being new?

The tranny fluid looked BRAND new and didn't smell burned.

Lastly, can anyone in the SF Bay Area recommend a tranny shop for replacing the output shaft on the TH400 and probably rebuilding it? I'm looking for quality at a reasonable price.

Thanks in advance,
John

hows the case?

all the rebuilders i've seen paint the tranny after its been rebuilt. If you can get a good shot of the clutches see how much frictional material is left.

The case has some grease/grime along the top "bell" portion of it... the rest of it was fairly clean aside from the expected dust/dirt.
