we have a line on a pair of J20 axles for a good price. d44 FK front/d60 rear. Both 8 lug.

*whats the 411 on these puppys?
*any body run these?
*how is part availability comp to a chevyd44 (aftermarket shafts/joints/)
*any strength issues comp to other 44's/60's?

thanks

the 44 has got a 16.75" short and 35.5" long axle which are kinda odd but they'll come with flat top knuckles and heavy duty 1/2" tubes (at least mine did).

the rear 60 will most likely be offset to the pass side about 6-7"

what year is it from? 80 and later are driver's drop front and centered rear.

I'm pretty sure the 4.11 in J-20 axles is the same as the 4.11 in any Dana 44/60, but they are most likely 3.73's or higher if it's a newer truck. :flipoff2:

Knuckles out on the front are nearly identical to Chevy, aftermarket shafts might be a bitch. I'm not sure what your application is, but it seems easier to use Chevy stuff, the J-20 front housing will be set up with leafspring pads under the axle, the Chevy stuff is over the axle, but if the price is right, run 'em.

...whoa in true newbie form I hit the post button by mistake.. luckily my keen sense of the obvious told me I did something wrong.

yeah, 78 should be both offset to the pass side like morpheus said.

moser makes full clip shafts for the front 44, joints and the rest is the same. need 16" rims unless you clearance the calipers or run way offset rims. not as wide as a true full-size, a little wider than Waggy axles.

a friend runs them in his behind a 258/t18/d18 and it works fine, no different than other 44/60s that I know of. they are usually cheap. (I think he got them for about $400 for the set)

Yeah, I'm just not up on all that hip Californy surfer lingo.
My hands smell like gear lube, not Sex Wax. I just saw 411 and axles in the same sentence and thought gear ratio, then when I read your post I thought it was funny.

Nope, your '78 J-20 axles should be standard run of the mill Dana 44/60, no real bastard parts that I can think of.

The rear 60 is WIDE - 68" to be exact.
The one I have is the mate to the front 44 Morpheus has (from earlier in the thread).
The rear is offset about 6.5" or so like he said.

www.metalfusionfab.com does offer a bolt on rear disk brake conversion for it (he used mine to make sure it fit :p )

I can take specific measurements of the rear 60 I still have if you are interested (pics can be done too).
