What are rear 55 springs worth? I have a set and a friend wants to buy them to SOA his 40 and I want to know what folks are paying for them. Are the fronts worth anything?

Fronts are worthless, IMO.

I got one set of my rears for free and the other set for the cost of shipping. (Course, I beat the rush....)

IMO, $80 - 100 a pair, toss in the fronts for free.

for a friend they should be free or maybe a beer or something,
ex: i only know nolen through this site, and he got mine free.
i guess the value of something depends on how generous you are and since your asking this Q i would check the price for new custom springs and sharge your "friend" double.:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

The best way for transactions IMHO

There are a lot of things I give away. Even to folks I don't know. A guy wanted a tranny hump for a 55 in AZ. I had one and told him $5 but then after looking at it I decided it wasn't perfect so I just gave it to him. A kid down the road didn't have any boots for his shifters. I gave him two premiumum condition boots for free. Later, I found out I needed them and ended up going to buy them.

55 springs have some value and at least out here they are becoming a rare thing to find, most are still attached to a 55. However, at this time almost any part that might have future value to me will sit on the shelf unless it can be traded or sold for something I have for immediate use for (baby coming in December, $$ is commodity I'm short on). I just wanted to be fair as I'm sure my friend would also want to be. Sometimes, I like to do a future value vs. current cash analysis.

Eric,

I paid $50 for one set and $100 for the other! The $50 set was in better shape than the $100 set. The set on my FJ-55 would be probably for free to anyone IF I ever end up keeping her!!

Actually, I've been thinking about it. I'm going to see if I can trade him for a set of diamond plate rear quarters. He works at a place that builds fire trucks and he made some 3/8" aluminum rear quarters for his 40 and I really like them. I'm building a 40 trailer to tow behind my 60 and it needs some rear body work. I could pound it out and cover it and be good to go. I've got to find something else to trade him too, I wouldn't mind having a set for my old 40 either. Thanks for all the pricing info.

Woody! any update on the inexpensive 55-style springs?

F-100 springs are so tempting for the future though...

No word yet, I will know something early next week....

If I were to do it over, I would use the F-150 springs like Mustard Dog..they are VERY plentiful and longer than '55 springs.

What are the dimensions on 55 springs? total length, offset, width?

FJ55 rear leaf packs were about 3.5 inches longer than stock FJ40 packs (47 inches eye-to-eye and 23.5 inches pin-to-eye).

(quoted from my tech writeup linked at ih8mud.com)

IIRC, Cruiser packs are 2.75" wide.... the pin is centered in the pack.

Hmm Dakota springs might be nice, instead of 55 springs. 54" long, 10" offest pin. $84 each, new at JC Ripme.

22" at one end, 32" at the other....would push back the Cruiser axle only 1" from stock then...plus, that extra 7" of leaf would leave them hanging WAY off the rear crossmember...mine are about even now with the rear "bumper."

Would work great for front springs tho...push the front axle up a bit, run a shackle reversal, and push back the recessed shackle mount in the frame....hhhhmmmmmm
