Why doesn't any use these tires? Seems like swampers and Mtr's are more popular. Any thoughts?

I know 3 guys that run 'Claws'.
guy #1 bought a set 35", LOVES them "they are soo mean" (F-250/street machine)
guy #2 bought a set 35", dissapointed, wishin he still had his BF muds (sami/wheeler)
guy #3 was sponsored a set 33or35", dissapointed, would rather pay for a different set of tires (jeep/wheeler)

I know someone, that knows someone, that talked to someone once that thinks they might have actually seen a Baja Claw about 20 years ago. Sheesh!!!

I've been running the same set of 35" Baja Claws for about 2 freakin years now and they are holding up just fine and I've never had a problem. They have been up and down the Rubicon and Fordyce trails countless times and even to the Hammers. I've run em at 4-5 lbs on both 10" and 8" rims and have never blown a bead. I totaled a set of 10" rims but the tires still look great. No chunking, rips or tears. My one and only complaint is that their '35's measure more like '33's but other than that, I've been real happy with em. They make a bit of noise on the pavement. (by the way, I drive to and from the trail on em too) I don't believe they 'stick' to rock as good as an MTR or TSL but they're pretty close. Always worked good for me... :D:D

I have the radial version on my K5 and they SUCK in the mud:p :p

They seem to be wearing pretty good on the street though and they are pretty quite compared to a super swamper:D

Hey Glenn the 4runner looked super. I had a look over at it when you were at the sluice Sat.....Its so clean and done right by what I saw...you were busy talkin to others, I chatted to FB for a min or 2, I was tempted to drive it away and put mine in its place, but I think you would have noticed that....LOL...want to redo mine now??:p :p :p

PS,
You do not need to go bigger on tires....the room you have is better for when the axels are twisting up and down...flex wise...

I've been running a set of the 38.5's for a little over a year now and LOVE them.
They stick better than the boggers but don't handle mud as well.
They are wider than the SX and have much better side grip but again don't handle mud as well.
If you do alot of mudding then go swamper but for loose dirt, sand or rocks I highly recommend the Claws.
I'll buy another set when these get worn out.

Well, shitfire. You coulda said something. :D It took long enough, what with me waiting for parts, waiting for money to buy parts and waiting for a day when it wasn't 110 freakin degrees to work on it. I had a lot of help from several people, mainly Josh (oneeye on the BB). It did turn out nice and it wheeled in and out without a problem. I'm very pleased with it. You're right about the tires too. I had bought a new set of 37 MTR's but I know they would rub like heck without some serious trimming. So, I gave em to Josh for all his help. I'm gonna just run the Claws. They've been very very good to me...

We can redo yours too if you don't mind it sitting on jackstands for 3 or 4 months. :D:D

I used to run them, I thought they were ok, but were way to small to be called a 35, I think that Ill stick with swamper, or the New BFG Krawler is way cool

from every one that ive talked to they are the yuppie equiv of a thornbird.. street/mild trail guys like them cause the girls at the mall think they are mean. they work ok on slick rock but what doesnt? they hold up ok, they shuld the rubber is thick enough.. they suck in the mud, nuf said there. the only place that they realy seem to work ok is on a light rig, aired down to nothing in the snow..

oh yha, i forgot to mention... most of the guys that think they rock are still over on ju and ord... :flipoff2:

But you have no practical, first hand 'experience' with them, do you? So, in fact, you don't know WTF you are talkin about... There's an old saying, 'Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see'... Instead of passing on useless drivel from 'he said, she said, they said', you should try them for yourself before passing such 'uninformed' judgement. :flipoff::mad:

i had the 33's when they first came out (in Canada). i have done Tellico trail #9(Sliprock) with my 4 banger TJ (open diffs) and made it with no winch. They always worked well with rock. i had them on 8 inch rims and only once did they debead at 8 psi. They have seen about 25,000 miles at 20 psi and a flat spot appeared on all 4. They were rotated (same side) every 500 miles. In total they were on 75 wheelin trips.
Summary: Rocks...good, Snow...good, Mud...50% hooked up well and 50% pure shit. Pavement...all over the frickin road but a wonderful humming sound.
i now have TSL SX and i prefer them. Here a pic from Tellico on guardrail where i did eventually winch.

exactly.. because of what i have heard i wouldnt want them. and even if i only belive half of what i see.. then i would see alot of trucks spinning only half of the tires.. lol:flipoff2: no, i dont have them but i do know people that did, and have seen them wheel, and seen them sell them to yuppies to put on there z71's etc.. :rainbow:
so from my second hand experiance.. they dont like mid west mud, and they dont like the trails up here in wa., and since i see the guy is from wa state this might be more helpfull tan some one who runs slick rock etc..

and yha... i guess i dont know what im talking about :flipoff2:

I've run BFG AT, Mt, SX's and Claws. I am on my 3rd set of bias ply claws. They work far better in the rocks than any of the above mentioned tires on my lightweight rig. Of course we don't run anything as hardcore as mud down here

Ive got a set of 35x12.50-15 radial claws, I dont like em. They dont grip for shit on rocks and they are loud on the road as they are on my daily driver. They are nice on loose dirt, but I run mostly rock terrain. They have handled pretty well for me in mild NC clay mud and in sand. One thing I give credit to is their sidewalls are tough as nails. I got major chunking of the lugs. I wouldnt buy another set of claw radials again. I am thinking of getting some bias claws, if someone can convince me that they are worth the extra money over tsl's.

I got a DVD of about 15 rigs who went to moab a month or so ago......well one guy was running the claws and everyone else was running MTR's or swamps and he had a lot more trouble going up the same obstacles.......looked as though they didn't stick as well as the other tires.

I don't know any specifics, like tire pressure ect...... they were on a jeep that could have been the problem:flipoff2:

I have seen them in action, nice tire for what they cost, altho in mud they are poor performers

I had no problems in Moab with my bald bias ply Claws but from what I saw a good set of drag slicks would work there. Lamest place on earth to test tires IMO or any 4x4 related part for that matter. I sold my 35's a couple weeks ago, got an e-mail from the guy a few days ago, he was amazed at how well they hooked up.
