: Pull Up style lap belts
imagineer 07-05-2010, 05:52 AM I struggle to get my Pull down style lap belts tight enough in my rock buggy. So I am looking into pull up style Lap belts and I was wondering if anyone uses them or can make any recommendations.
Here what I was thinking of getting http://www.jegs.com/i/Simpson/856/29061BK/10002/-1

ROCMOJO 07-05-2010, 07:14 AM Only way to go if your frame attaching point isn't to close to your seat. I bought a set of Crows and couldn't use them because they wouldn't adjust short enough. My belts snap in just outside the seat. They were definitely easier to adjust though.
BigWoodyWag 07-05-2010, 07:39 AM Yes, we are using Schroth belts, and had them made in the "Pull-up" to tighten setup.
Much easier to leverage up and get them tight.
Scherer turned me on to these guys. Also went with the 2" shoulders for fitting in the Hans better.

Huss666 07-05-2010, 08:53 AM I had to do the same thing but I bought impacts and they suck. I'm about to buy a new belt for just my side to test it out:flipoff2:

BillaVista 07-05-2010, 10:58 AM Lucas,
Here are some thoughts / considerations:

bottom line - I prefer the pull-up, but because my seats and chasis were designed before i knew about them, there isn;t room between the seat and chasis for them.
For god's sake DO NOT install them with the tilt-lock inside the seat!

Yes...we're sponsored by two different safety product manufacturers that have seatbelts in their product line so we can get our belts for free...yet we still purchase the Hooker Harnesses as the ratchet makes all the difference in the world. They really are that good.

I cant tell you enough how much I love those belts. I'm a skinny MoFo, and getting normal belts tight in a deep seat is next to impossible for me. The Hooker harnesses give you the ability to crank em down til you cant breathe anymore and they WILL NOT come loose period.
Jeff Knoll 07-06-2010, 06:49 AM PRP has pull up belts but you need to order them correctly. I have a display at SMORR that shows you how to order them. You can try them on and compare to pull down adjustments.

Cool. I will have to check them out.
Stephen 07-08-2010, 05:29 PM I had pull ups in my K5 and didn't like them. Not enough room between the seat and panels, tubing, crap between the seats, etc to adjust them easily. We're using the crow pull downs where the buckle is built into the latch and it gives enough room to cinch a skinny guy in. If the buckle isn't part of the latch you need girth to make them work.
Ditchrunner 07-11-2010, 01:21 PM Some sprint cars use the ratcheting belts as shown in Dustin's thread. Those cockpits are TIGHT. Those guys manage to do all their own belts when necessary and you know they have them snugged up. They don't run very long generally, but they vibrate and bounce quite a bit, especially on dirt tracks. And when they get wheel to wheel and start cartwheeling down the track those belts can't afford to loosen.
The bonus part is that they are just as easy as standard belts for safety workers to get undone when the driver is rattled.
