Today my wife tried to start her truck its a 82 sub with a 454 with a edelbrock 4 barrel carb and it wouldnt start for her unless it was floored. I had the same results when I tried it later in the day. You gotta put it to the floor and it runs really ruff then you can let off and it clears out a bit, but if I let all the way off the gas it dies. I cleaned all the plugs and couldnt find anything visible wrong with the motor or the carb and its still the same. I filled it up with gas and drove it around a bit and it runs fine at anything over 1500 rpms or so then it falls on its face below that. Any ideas, something plugged in the carb or something need adjusted? This just happened over night so its hard for me to even tell where to start..

my only problem with that carb i ever had was the needle would sometimes get stuck.. a rubber mallet took care of that

hmm perhaps a little tap with a hammer is in order. when the needle valve stuck did it do what I described?

Another possibility is some water in the carb..I had a 76 truck that I got water with some fuel I bought when I lived in that area and that is how it ran..

do you smell any gas? coul dbe a possible stuck float. this used to happen to my q-jet. als when my carter used to flood I woul dhave to hold it wide open to get enough air in there to start it, then it would run liek crap cause it was all loaded up until it burned out all the gas.

Turns out you were right. I went out and gave it a little tap here and there on the carb (didnt really know where to hit it) and she fired right up for me. So I had my wife put a little finish hammer in the truck now, just in case... Thanks guys!

oh yeah, just for future refference, the needle doesn't move....how is it going to stick? it's supposed to be in one position, maybe your carb was messed up becuase the needle was MOVING! anyways, it's most likely the floats sticking. when you have a chance take it apart and clean it out.
