So I had a nasty endover and taco'd the winch. Pics here: http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/jjacobs22/lst?.dir=/winchsmash&.src=ph&.order=&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/
Can I weld the pieces back in w/ TIG? Better yet, one of the broken out pieces is still laying in the sand in Farmington. I suppose it could be built back up? Or is it a boat anchor?
If anybody has a good housing PM me, please.

It will take more than that to make an 8274 into a boat anchor. Warn has the parts breakdowns on their site, and there are plenty of places to buy parts from.

Sure, but I bet that housing is at least 300 bucks. I'll check tomorrow. What about the weld fix? I don't know anything about aluminum. Yep, it's broke, but tig fixes all right?
the real bummer is that it's a borrowed winch but the owner doesn't read piratebb! Well I was gonna buy it anyway.

Just from looking at the pictures, the only obvious damage is the hole in the cover. You should be able to fabricate a replacement and TIG weld it with good results if that is the only damage.
