My girl has been looking for a truck for some time now...blah blah blah. One of our friends is selling his 2004 Titan king cab (short bed) 2wd. Needless to say she is in love with this truck.

Its a dark green with some kind of 6 inch lift. I think she said it was ctv or cst brand? New tires (33's), and for the most part it is a clean truck. ( I haven't seen it yet)

We are going to go test drive it today and I need the great PBB to give me a heads up on what to look for.

I already dont like it because its 2wd but she wont get a 4wd because she thinks I'll beat the hell outta it like I do all my trucks. We would be using this truck to tow around the toys and very light offroading.

Thank you for any and all help.

The first thing that comes to mind is the brakes.
There was a factory brake recall on the first Titans. make sure that was taken care of already.

How much will you be towing with it?

Thanks for the heads up on the brakes! I'll look into that.

Not too much: 2 or 3 quads, a small boat, Maybe the 22ft'er once in a blue moon with the Jeep on it.

no problem.
the toys you listed shouldn't be a problem. The truck is still rated to pull some good weight but keep in mind that the rear axle on those is basically a HD D44. so don't get too crazy with it.

I'm a 16 year Nissan Master tech, Titans are good trucks, but the 2004's SUCKED! The rear ends were junk! I have a stock pile of Titan take out rears that I've fixed the leaks on for sale. The brakes were a big issue on '04-'05 Titans, but there wasn't a recall on them, just a TSB. They had to be under 3/36 to get covered. If you are looking for a Titan get an '06 or newer in my opinion.

I own a 2007 Titan 4X4, and use it to tow my junk, I mean Jeep, to and from the trail. It does fine. I had an 04, and yes the brakes sucked badly, but they addressed the issue, and it was good to go. The new one will stop a damn dime!! HTH!!
