: what front springs?

I was thinking 6" xj fronts, but think they may be too soft even though they hold up a straight six. I'm kinda leaning toward bronco/f150 springs from a ttb vehicle. The thing is they will have to be outboarded a bit. The factory spring perches on my 60 are 36.5 on center Which puts them under the frame. If I outboard them that much should I go with a softer spring to counteract the loss of leverage or will the 60 be heavy enough to use up the droop a bronco coil offers? Any other ideas?

I am using 6" Bronco lift springs flexs very good and they are outboarded. If you use them under the frame you may need a sway bar at road speeds, mine is just on the edge for that.

That's basically the issue....how soft a spring to use since they will be outboarded. The only road time my rig will see is long enough to get it on a trailer.

I like the Bronco springs that said, I think my Scout rides like a Buick on the road just a little sway at 60. Sway bar on the rear is easy just the frt is a bitch. I don't road mine very often so I am happy with it, not a KOH rig just a POS trail truck:D

The Jeep 4.0 weighs 515 lbs, and your small block chevy weighs 575 lbs. I am running 4" yj lift springs and they don't seem too soft. If you want you can drive my scout to get an idea of how it feels.

My cousin's is using Rubicon Express 6" lift springs on his YJ and they are outboarded for his front 60. I will post a pic if I can find one. Brandon probably has a few.... Or you can see it in person when you get back into town if you want.

X2 on YJ (I have 2.5" BDS springs).

I recently swapped in some heavily used Waggy 44044 springs & they made my rig sit way too high.

Lots of folks like the 63" Chevy springs (not too tall, but the length gives you tons of flex).

Back to the coil springs from the fords. The TTB uses a stiffer coil than the straight axle broncos, 78/79 and early bronco. When I bought my Cage brand springs they were the same for the early bronco and 78/79. They just listed as 4.5 for the 78/79 and 5.5/6 inch lift for the early bronco. Most of the other companies that offer a progressive coil spring list the vehicles the same way. Most of the time when someone is performing an SAS on a ttb truck it is recommend to go for the straight axle bronco springs for articulation.

Although my scout is still marinating in the garage unfinished. Also has never moved on its own power since I have owned it. I can't say or give an expert opinion saying they are the springs to buy, but I do think they are a good choice for a scout with a small block whatever.

In this pic the frame is supported and axle is resting on jack stands. I think the springs would let the axle almost rest on the floor.

Here it is with a fully dressed 351w t19/205 under its own weight.

No go on the YJ's.....going with coils. And 63"s are WAY too long for the front. I may just go with the 6" XJ springs and if I don't like em......I can rebuild as usual.

If you go with the 6" XJ's, try Rusty's Offroad brand coils. Have heard on numerous occasions that the spring rate is stiffer than most other companies which might help offset the extra weight on the Scout.

Yeah, I am looking at Rusty's and RE......but I like the price on Rusty's. specially if they are a little stiffer.

EDIT: on second thought, i'm gonna pick up some used springs first and work my way from there. Easier on the wallet that way.

On the front I used EB 5.5" on mine, they are through the frame. I cut the frame used some pipe and some 2/4 tubing. Spring buckets (pipe) allow the spring to be longer but don't have to outboard them to keep LCG. Welded it all back to stock frame and it rides really well. In back I used some custom J$$P coils a buddy had laying around to get the ride height where I wanted it. Not much HWY cruisin for me but i can do 50 or so and it feels ok for awhile.

What a stellar idea! I'm gonna steal it and take all the credit. Please delete your post so I look smart when its done and nobody can prove it wasn't my idea.:flipoff2:

EDIT: you got any pics of that?

ttb will be way to stiff. run early bronco progressives if you can find some. The EB guys go through those like I do IPA's. Beware of the 78/ stuff, some of it is really stiff too, like 350 pound springs. Most of the EB stuff is 125 to 200 I think. My linear rates in my big bronco are 150.

as an aside, Are you around tomorrow? was thinking I could pick up those leaves if you still had them

Brand name "Wild Horses" is what I used. They have been used by quite a few fellas around home (mostly medium to heavy rigs)and everyone seems to like the way they work. I looked last nite and couldn't find any pictures but I will try and take some later today. Copy away!!

wild horses is in stockton too. There are several brands, all offer about the same results so long as you get the progressives.

I was thinking about starting with used springs to get a feel for what I want, but at 160 a pair, I think I might just go with the 5.5's. Thanks for all the advice guys.
