I have found what the seller claims to be a SM 420 This I know for a fact is so it has the webs on the reverse hump side and a switch for back up lights. Behind it is a short ( 4" or so ) adapter ??? or coupling device that joins it to a transfercase that he believes is a BOrg Warner something. He says it came out of a 67 Chevy . That sounds correct for the SM420 but I don't know anything about the transfercase. It outputs straight out the back and front is offset to the right like the Jeep Dana 20s. The shift lever on the transfer is mounted on the drivers side.
If anyone knows what this is and where I can look into one on a tech site online I would greatly appreciate that.
Thanks, Dave

It sure looks familiar( an odd duck for sure) I am going over this saturday and taking a longer look. The last time I was there I was picking up 3 SM420s , 2 with the ribs and backup switches (later models and one with the smooth hump) all for 200 dollas!!
I was alittle excited about the score so I said I'd be back when I had some more money to pop the lid and look inside the 420 since thats all I was realy interested in. Now that I have investigated a little further it seems that the 221 might be a good candidate for a 60 Willys truck that I am putting together with a small block and the 420. I understand the output yokes are the same u-joint size as the Jeeps also, correct me please if I am wrong, or I guess I could change something around on the drivelines to match up since I will have to get new drivelines made up anyway.
I was told today that on the input side of the transfercase there is a set of needle bearings kind of like a tranny input-mainshaft pilot bearing that could go bad and a fix would be machining down the nose of the shaft and shrinking on a torrington bearing race. It also is a direct match for strength level to the 420 so I like that idea. It does look a little bulky however so it could be a challenge under the floor of the Willys pickup. What I realy like is I have to buyt zNO ADAPTER!!!!!!==== 500$$$$$ for other pARTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there any web stuff that might show how to rebuild this guy or do you just treat it like any other timken style set up with end play adjustment etc........??????????

Thanks ,,,Dave   ( I think I will go find Another brew!!!!!)
