I have an all original 1977 scout II with only 68000 original miles, garage kept, but not driven for almost 15 years. Everything has been leaking and I have been going through them one by one. I am down to two leaks now I believe. I fixed the transmission leak by new cooler lines and on the fourth try, a new summit cast aluminum oil pan. I've done a new rear main seal, but everytime after a few heat cycles the front of the oil pan pushes the gasket out a little bit but its not dripping oil, but the gasket is a little wet and I believe it will start. Does anybody make a new pan for them as I have tried twice to straighten it out. Second, I rebuild the water pump and after the 5th or so trip in it, about 30 minutes later it started leaking antifreeze out the drivers side top water pipe. I put the new O-rings on it. Any idea on the O-ring size so I can pick a new one up or why it could be pushing out there. I didn't use any kind of sealant on it. Also I sandblasted and repainted the water pipes and the water pump, it looked like it has paint where the water pipes go in so I painted there as well. Could that be causes the problem I wonder. Thanks for any help. This truck just seems to fight everything I do.

This is a hardcore off road web site dedicated to building bad ass IH offroad rigs at any cost. It is not here to build a truck you will be comfortable driving to the mall. The point of the search and stickys are to keep the pages from filling up with stupid shit that comes up over and over and over, that is also easily found with just a little search skill. If you spend no more that 60 seconds you would have found the Binder Planet, and also noted this site is for the adults that are willing to search, take criticism, learn, grow, and build an offroad capable IH. Good luck with your Scout it sounds like a very nice truck and I can't imagine you are looking to take it out and beat the snot out of it, but if you are we will be here to help you rebuild it, time and again. Look at Binders truck/buggy that started as a Scout and is what all Scout here will look like at some point if they survive the trips we put them through. And by the way, if you got your feelings hurt on this post you are really not man enough to be here anyway.

Welcome to the world of the IH SV engine. I have never seen my 392 or old 304 not leak from somewhere. It is inevitable, and I think the only way to get the oil pan to not leak is to rebuild the engine so there is little to no blowby and therefore less pressure buildup in the crankcase. Mine leaks oil, gear oil, antifreeze, and now my rear diff leaks from the last trail run, so I need a ruff stuff cover with lubelocker gasket. Maybe we need to get our oil pan pattern to lubelocker for a leak free gasket??
