A group of us is heading out to CO, UT, and NM in the first week of October. We are looking for a ride in CO that allows us to dump the tow rigs and head out with all our camping gear loaded up and enjoy 2 or 3 days in the back country. In the end we will need to be back at the tow rig so either a loop or something close. All of the rigs are street legal and registered in SC, but they pretty much don't care here. My right hand drive buggy is on the street and I have never had any problems. Might be a problem in other states.

Do you guys have any suggestions as to places we should see, must see. This is going to be a 2 week wheeling trip so we are planning on a little of everything. Of course moab is on the list again this year. We are planning on 4-5 days there.

From the looks of it we are going to have to tie multiple trails together. My biggest concern is that my rig is a buggy, which as I said is less than street legal even though it is tagged and insured. Well that and a safe place to park a couple of tow rigs for a few days.

I am really looking forward to a expedition style trip. Around here you can come back to the trailer for lunch and dinner. The current plan is to leave SC on Oct. 1st and head west. Should make it to CO on the 3rd and be there early enough to hit the trails. Be expedition style for the 3rd to the 5th. Then some CO rock crawling before heading to Moab.

Alot of trails up by Silverton will be closed in Oct. Too much snow. You might get lucky and find some open but have another plan just in case.

I got lucky last year and ran Black Bear the last weekend in Sept but it snowed the next week and they closed it.

You might have better luck looking in south eastern Utah for a 2-3 trail, hole in the rock and the white rim trail by Moab are two I can think of. X2 you could very well be snow wheeling the first week of October in the high country of Colorado.

If the longer trails have a risk of being closed in the high country, would we have a chance to hit some hard rock trails? We really want to wheel CO but it is tough to get the time to get out that way. All but one of us has been to Moab before so we are trying to find some new stuff to make the trip memorable. Is there anything else that is a must see/do that time of year. The only time I have made it to CO is when it is covered in snow.

How would it be to wheel montrose and the other rock areas of CO in October? I mean, we are going to be driving right through there on the way to moab and it would be nice to hit up a few good trails in CO before going into Moab.
