Im all about the new spot weld method goin around. You make 4 spot welds on each spider geat and then put them back together, that way if you ever get a locker or somehting you can pull the gears and have the carrier unharmed.

Or swith spider gears to another carrier if you stipped a ring and pinion or something.

In my welded D30 and D44, I only welded the spiders to each other. In the D44, this ment that the spider teeth stripped off, in the D30, I cracked the carrier (the center pin pulled thru). Now, I have the spiders welded to the carrier with no further problems. Just my $0.02.

this is by no means new! been doing this for a while. this one my buddy earl at mingo salvage did a long time ago. just weld it on the four point shown front and back (total of 8) the only way that is going to bust is if the cross pin shears....in a dana 60 or 14 bolt that is not bloody likley!

i got a question....last time i welded my rear 60, it sucked cuz i did it inside the housing. When i go to do my front 60....can i take out the front carrier without fucking up the setup..please explain

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if you were to "ever get a locker or somehting", ALL that sh!t would get chucked the hell out.
unless you consider a mini spool/lockright a step up from that

79F25039s.... you can take your carrier out to weld it and it wont mess up your setup. Just pull the cover, pop off the 4 carrier bearing bolts, pull the carrier (may be difficult.. ive had some that took forever to pull, and some just fell out). Weld away, clean it up, and put it back in! WAR DAMN EAGLE

wow, yeah that really shows that whoever welded that crap was a jackass. that in no way adds any strength to the root of the weld, were all the strength lies. why in the HELL would you do that? I have never seen someone waste so much rod on useless chit. especially when it's all asthetic crap liek that! jesus!
