94-95 has the crapy converter and trans... They upgraded in 96 I Have 106,000 miles on my 98 still shifts firm. no problems. They 94 and 95 is what gave them such a bad rep. Not to say the the later modles are the best out their. Just something to keep in the back of you mind, when you have a chose between a 95 and a 96 go with the 96...

I ran a 96 for years with a auto, beat the hell out of it and it stayed together.

However, a destall converter, L/U switch and a transgo kit are damn good ideas.

Early 98's were the last year for the 12v, 98.5 was the first 24v. I just bought a 2001 2500 Quad Cab w/ an auto I love it. Look here for alot of info on dodge diesel's.
