: fuel cell placement

ok guys i gotta question. Well, two really. Here it goes...

1. Where is the BEST placement for a 10 gallon fuel cell. I've thought about mounting it flush with the rear of the chassis for easy filling, but then I'll have to go over it for parts, recovery gear, ect. on the trail. Then, I was thinking of moving it forward flush with the rear seat bar, and use the space around it for storage boxes or whatever. It's a Jeg's cell that's about 17" by 17" square. If I put it at the rear seat bar, i'll also have the shocks dropping down beside it, so it will look pretty good.

2. My cell has a sump in the bottom. Is it better to have it facing forward so the lines point toward the motor, or should I turn it around so the sump is towards the rear? My thoughts are- forward: ease of running lines and looks "right", or rear: fuel in rear of cell on hillclimbs or steep obstacles.

What ya think? What works or doesn't?

I have my propane tank all the way to the rear, and your right its a pain to get to my tool bag that rest in front of it, the thing i would also remember is rear winch placement, i wouldnt move it so far forward that the it interfers with that, unless you plan on mounting it low. mine mount to tha back of the rear seat bar in between the shock hoops. Some body on here, and i think it was one of the tin benders did a realy cool custum job that mounted in the rear floor utilizinf the whole floor and alowed for storage on top. I think it was the givaway build up. but im not sure

I believe that one was the Ultimate Formula Four or something. I'm not that good...lol. As far as a rear winch goes, I won't have one. I actually don't even have a front winch for the moment, but i will put one on eventually.

taters is right behind the pass. seat lines coming out the back. Never had a problem.

My stock tank is right behind the back seat, I have a british mortar box above it for a "trunk" and room behind the tank for recovery gear and a small cooler. If you mount it forward, you can always run the filler neck to the back (or the side) and "have your cake and eat it too".

Hendrix' Ultimate Formula Four with the flat pancake fuel cell that goes between the framerails and leaves the entire area above for gear: awesome!

If your sump is low enough, having the lines pointed forward should still give you fuel when climbing...unless you're damn near empty.

So i gather right behind the back seat area is the best. I think i'll do that and have the rear shocks go down just beside it. So you think the sump up front should be fine? I was worried a 10 Gal tank was too small, but putting through the woods all weekend in my last truck only took about half a tank, so i figure 10 should be fine.

I have a 10 gallon and the sump is forward, haven't had a problem yet. I just make sure its full before each trail run, and if it becomes an issue I will put some fuel line in there with weights to move around with the direction the Ftoy is leaning. Almost 2 years now with no problems though.
