: no more power brakes, vacuum?

So my truck yesterday morning blew a radiator hose down by the oil cooler. All of the fluid ran out very quickly. Trouble is, it was snowing pretty hard and you couldn't notice the difference between steam and blowing snow behind you. The temp gauge shot up quickly to the red and I shut it down to investigate. I let it cool for a while and then parked it.

Here is the strange thing- When I parked the truck- I had no power brakes. Very hard to push to the floor. I am assuming I have no vaccum assist going to the booster now? Anyone have this problem before? Hot engine promoting a vacuum problem?

Once I got the truck fixed and full of fluid yesterday, the brakes were still stiff. Very strange!

Any comments?

This happened to me with my BJ42. The problem was with the reservoir. Toyota didn't have anymore of them (at least for mine). I just bypassed the whole damn thing. I ran a hose from my vacuum pump (which on mine is located at the rear of the alternator!) directly to the power booster. I've had ZERO negative affects- stop and go traffic- no problem, four wheeling- no problem.

If you really want to repair the reservoir system you can either get someone to weld you a new tank OR just take your existing one off and have someone find/repair the hole(s).

If you decide to bypass, then you'll want to unplug the sensor from the reservoir so your "brake" light will go out. Hope this helps! jerry
