but he managed to destroy a 2000 4.0................ guessing he broke a rod and put it through the block... 90,000 miles....

we are considering a stroker 4.0 and maybe even a lt1 which one would you guys choose?

I don't know how much weight you would really save, I-6 arent light for there displacment and ls-1's arent heavy for theirs. i would just look at the price, those strokers get pricey and still don't have the potential of a chev V-8

I wouldn't consider weight between the two as a deciding factor.

You are in PA, is it a street rig? I would consider the emission factor first to make sure the LT1 is legal if its a concern.

After that its what do you want out of it? The 4.0L stroker would probably be easier with respect to mounts, wiring, trans, exhaust, etc. as its the same basic block.

But the Lt1 sure would be sweet....

(your hats went out yesterday :D)

Talk to this guy, Harold [halmc@sprintmail.com]. He's doing an LT1 conversion as we speak into his TJ. It's not running yet, but he's getting close.

I'd go V-8 but I don't think I'd go LT-1 for a number of reasons. Unless you just happen to have one.

I'd go Ramjet 350 for a crate engine.

Even better if I were to do a swap today I'd go with LS-1 as its all aluminum therefore light. $5400 w/computer

Even better LS-6/ZO-6 at 385 hp.

Small block Chev's weigh less than the 4.0/4.2's those straight 6's are heavy but usually bulletproof.

Not quite "less" but close. And that's compared to a 4.2. The 4.0s are actually quite a bit lighter than a standard (not aluminum block) 350 Chevy.

I like the Ramjet 350 idea! :D

depending on heads, an LT1 can be lighter than a 4.0 as has been said.
4.0 is a pig for a six...

anyways...you can score much better deals on LS1s...

i got mine from CONTEMPORARY CORVETTE for you PA guys (bristol township, north of phila.)
its a corvette salvage and pull out place...
got an 18K 2000vette LS1 with all accessories plus computer, electronic accelerator pedal, yada yada yada for 3500.
has title documentation as well....
there are deals on these engines if you look around...plus the ~50k ones are going for like 2gs or less.

A pre-87 350 with iron heads and iron intake weighs 175 # more then the I6. If weight is a problem ditch the cast intake for a performer. You could go as far as aluminum heads if you have the mojo.

As far as the stroker, go 350 nothing beats have 400lb-ft of torque from 900-2700rpm.

Rob, You know how I feel about V-8's. Go for it!
If he can't decide on the two, why not combine the two and stroke the small block!! HELL YEAH! :D

Hesco 4.7 stroker kits. hmm did sum research on that and want to go that route. alone the kit puts u at 275 hp and 325 ft torque basic v8 power rite there throw on headers intake msd ignition and new distributor and cam ur gonna be puching over 350 hp saw the dyno's and u can do that all for under 3500 bucks glass beaded and thermal locked. u also need bigger fuel injectors high flow water pump and it wouldnt hurt to add a becool aluminum 4 core radiator! jacks the price up a lil but i know sumone whos got the setup and he gets 14/17 mpg city high way with 4.56's and 38 with a ax15 n231 combo

hes goin for a nv4500 and atlas combo and hes gonna drop another 4 grand on the supercharger cant wait to see how sick he makes it but should break the 450 mark who knows we shall see.

Hey man, I have a friend in Atl. that did the stroker kit last year, since then he has added an Avenger supercharger and a 75 shot of NO2. He dyno'd his truck at about 440hp at the rear wheels w/ 37" SSR's, the engine is probally putting out well over 500hp.
And he still drives this Jeep on a regular basis. He still gets decent milage he just has to run high oct. fuel. Hesco did most of the work at there shop and he has been totally pleased with everything they've done. He loves talking to people about his Jeep so you could probally find him pretty easy, both Hesco and Avenger will know him. His name is Bill Stucker and he lives near Atl. The Jeep is a 99 TJ Sport, Dark Blue, Tera 60's, 37 SSR's

This should go without saying but:
Be sure you take everything into consideration when doing this swap, such as axles, susp brackets, driveshafts, etc... I saw you're installing a NV4500 and an Atlas, just be sure to upgrade the axles to match you're newfound power. Any stock axles will be torn to shreds with any kind of power output, even a factory Dana 44.
