Which one do you think should break first?

The 35 ujoint is the same as some 44's so it makes sense that the spiders will give unless the shafts dont do it first.

I was with a guy that was going to make fun of my 4cly by spining his 33's on pavement. He ended up blowing up his spiders :flipoff2:

hehehehe

I busted up the spider gears and I spun an axle tube last weekend.
and the ujoint on the driveshaft held up fine.

I've gone through two front stubb/u-joint assemblies in the last two months. Easy to fix, but still costly. I've spent enough on buying spares to get the OXs already! No problems with gears/tubes, but I'm super light on the go-go pedal (which is aided by a 4-banger). :D

Never lost one before the 37s though, maybe a coincidence, maybe not. When I had 33s and a D35 I only managed to break one Moser D35 shaft, but never a front 30 u-joint during that time.

So to me, my D30 has now become my D35, the jeep achile's heal (or however the hell you spell it).

I'm confused, are you asking if your rear dana 35 spider gears are weaker than your front U-joints or did you mistake a front Dana 30 for a Dana 35, and are asking if the u-joint or spiders are weaker?

In both cases it would depend if you have the older 260x ujoints or the newer 297x ujoints. I would say the ujoint is more likely to fail in both cases, but the rear axleshafts may be even weaker than the front ujoints if stock.

The whole post was to point out that if you have a dana 35.
don't count on your rear driveshaft Ujoints to be the weak link.

My driveshaft and Ujoints were fine The Dana 35 is so fawking weak that I managed to spin an axle tube and frag my spider gears. without even making the ujoints flinch:rolleyes:

damn...I should have taken pictures of when my D35 grenaded

it was purely a result of stupidity, but I had about 10 kagillion pieces of spiders gears in my diff, a sheared center pin, and a cracked carrier when I pulled the diff cover. no other damage to the driveshaft or anything though.

I think a lot of it depends on how much axle wrap you are getting, and what kind of d-shaft angle you have.
If your d-shaft is at an angle, the leverage against the u-joints is much harder, causing them to be weaker. If your springs are wrapping up, the drivleline u-joints will also be weak points.
But in other situations (no spring wrap, and angles are good) the axle components will be at risk.

I tore up D35 spiders before lifting my YJ. After the SOA, and before the SYE, I blew out u-joints like they were nothing. Never blew any more spiders though.
