replaced rotor button, cap, coil, and replaced module with the "black box" that i got from SSS...plug cables are in good shape (tested for continuity) and i've been through the wiring at least a dozen times...its a 79 with a 345

 STILL NO FUCKING SPARK AT THE PLUGS

any ideas?

thanks

Ain't got a clue 'til ya tell us what/how you've checked.:flipoff2:

Where do you have juice?

Primary ignition lead?

The famous firewall connector?

Use a friggin' meter!:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

yeah...you think:flipoff2:  :flipoff2:
all the tests in the shop manual have been performed...got juice everywhere except the plugs...which i think i already said...been through wiring a dozen times(ass)

Grab a plug wire by the end with one hand and put the other hand on the block. then have someone crank the motor. This is an excellent simple way to tell if the coil is any good.

your awfully funny
i just used my go go gadget arm to crank it while i held the wire:rasta:

unfortunatly that would yeild no shock

ok...i'm actually NOT stupid...so stupid answers will be of no help here:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Do you have power to the coil? Do you have power leaving the coil?

Does it have a rotor under the cap?:D

yes and yes

this is what im saying...i got power EVERYWHERE except the ends of the plug cables...and the internals of the distributor are new from SSS...something is going wrong inside the distributor, is all i can tell...but all that shit is new

the truck was running fine...i had it in the shop welding the rear bumper on (forgot to disconnect the battery however)...but everything seems to be unaffected by it, and i replaced everything since...just cant start the SOB

BTW...sweet ass tube bumper that wraps around under the side of the 1/4 panel (removed 30lbs of sheet metal first)

taking the truck over my pop's place is the next step...he's an electrical genius...by trade

Your saying that you checked the coil output while the engine was cranking and you had power from the "coil wire". You then hooked the coil wire to the distributor and no spark.

you are correct sir

not possible right?
i'm baffled...but that simple statement has got me thinking in a new direction...kind of

something must not be working consistently...the coil, cable to distributor or something

i'll let you know how it turns out

Had the same problem with a chainsaw. It was the wire coming from the magneto (coil).

well...i replaced that wire

not getting good pulses...i'll be back

You put the thing together 90 degrees off, clamour about all these problems, then figure you can just end the thread? Yeah right!!! :D

ahh...:jester:

thing is i dont remeber losening that bolt...i didnt pull the distributor...all i can figure is that the timing needed to be reset with the new module or something (and this is where i admit that i know nothing about the engines)...this is actually my first vehicle without a "computer"...as well as my first V8 and first carbed...my last rig was late-modeled and worked much differently...and my daily drivers have always been (vintage) volvos, which have been electrical nightmares since '70ish

oh well...it runs now, and has a top and doors for the first time since ive owned it

and i will finally get some time on the trail this weekend...the trucks been under construction since august...soa and 36" swampers, etc...

Please explain, even with the timing out you should all ways get spark:confused: . The timing has nothing to do with wether you get spark only when.:flipoff2:

I would be checking to make sure it’s not an intermittent fault.

i cant explain it...i gave up on it and took it to my pop's place...he figured it out in 10 minutes (while i was at home)...i didnt get to see what EXACTLY went down...im not an engine guy, but im working on that

Well ask your Pop what he did, and tell us. Enquiring minds want to know!

Poor timing=no spark?

ahh...my brilliant self managed to get the cap on backwards...so the original problem goes undetected...meanwhile i caused a minor stupid problem
