: It's Official.. I'm a new daddy!
Chister 08-17-2010, 05:30 PM Well.. the official photo is finally here.
This all started over a year ago. The wife and I decided that we were getting too old to have another baby.. for us, being 40 and doing diapers again just wasn't our gig. And after 7 years of trying again after our first daughter... well....So we thought long and hard, and decided to adopt. We didn't do in-vitro or fertility drugs or anything like that.. we felt that if it wasn't going to happen naturally, then the Good Lord wanted us to do something else.
We went to the state department that handles this kind of stuff and basically said.. we want a girl, any race, between the ages of 3 and 7. Our oldest was 7 at the time, and we wanted her to have a little sister.
We first met our new daughter back in December of 2009. We took her home to live with us as a foster daughter immediately. We also started the adoption process right then and there. It was instant love. She was an orphan. No mom, no dad.. a true ward of the state.
A mere 7 months later and we signed the papers with the judge.. she is ours!
The girls have been sisters since Day 1 in the truest sense of the word. It is as if she has always been ours.

Congratulations!!!! Do you mind telling the masses what it cost you to adopt?? If you dont want to say I totally understand. I would love to adopt, but I dont feel like I could afford it right now (from the figures I have heard).

We are in the process of adopting a 6 year old boy from Bulgaria with Down Syndrome. He will be our 6th child. We currently have an 11 year old, a 9 year old, a 5 year old, a 3 year old, and an 18 month old.
Now, if we can just sell our house and move to our farm to get our kids out in the country.

Chister 08-17-2010, 09:21 PM Thanks everyone..
Yep.. Two teenage daughters. two teenage female drivers..
Two weddings..
and tens of thousands of penises..
THAT is what I have to look forward to!
My best friend has 3 daughters (all married now) who were models in their teens.. He's taught me a lot about being a father... Especially how to handle Lye.. where to bury the bodies... that a pool and a hot tub are great excuses dig really deep holes... and he has given me free rights to go anywhere on his 10,000 acre ranch that I want anytime i want.. :D
Between my East Coast stops in Bev's yard to my West Coast stops in Gena's yard, and after my stops In Muddin's yard...
In all seriousness though.. My wife have been actively trying to conceive for almost 7 years. And now you know why there have been no blowjobs.. Why waste something so valuable.
And JastorsGirl can just shut your mouth. I'm now scheduled for the Big V in early October.
It has definitely been a growing experience for us all around.. ALL of us.. bringing someone into the family that is already her own person has been a VERY trying.. but VERY rewarding experience.. The intricacies of the personalities are SO coming out. Me and my oldest are the same temperament.. my wife and our new one are of the same temperament.
Some people that meet us for the first time are not sure which daughter is the adopted one. My youngest has a STRONG facial and body resemblance to my wife's family. My youngest is pasty white like my wife. My youngest has nice dark olive skin that tans easily like me.
To answer the cost question.. I have also heard the horror stories of people adopting and it costing them tens of thousands of dollars. Our process was actually quite inexpensive. Because we found her the way we did - through the state human services division, the state actually helped mitigate almost all of the cost. The state subsidized the costs of the lawyer, plus the fact that there is a local lawyer that did the legal work for the cost of the subsidy, and does not ask for more. basically.. The state says "we only pay X dollars for the legal fees.. everything else is up to you." and the lawyer says "My fees for adoptions just happen to be X dollars. I don;t ask for more." Guess who is an adoptee himself that wants to help other adoptive families. ;)
Speed is another issue that many people have. Our daughter is a true orphan.. she has no mother and father. We took 7 months from the day we met her to the day we adopted her...
My cousin is adopting twin girls, and he has been fostering them for 2 years already. They just went last week to get the parental rights terminated, via jury trial. They got them terminated. now, they are on the beginning of a 12 month waiting period while the case is automatically appealed. After that, they will be able to adopt them, just like we did. Same subsidy deal from the state.
So consider that if you are interested in adopting.. you might specify, as we did, that we were only interested in bona fide adoptable children...
Anyway.. our total cost of adoption was very minimal, and we did it in just 7 months.
We also have good friends that have adopted two separate girls from overseas. they are GORGEOUS girls.. and i applaud them too.. But we felt there are so many American kids that need families too, so we just stayed home. EVERY child deserves a loving family.. EVERY child.
And no, we have not ruled out another child later.. maybe even more... who knows. Maybe I'll win the lottery and adopt my own soccer team.

Kidding aside, look at the difference you can make in that girl's life! You might forget or not realize it, but it's true. Kid's are products of their environment and you and your wife's selfless act will change your new daughter's life in amazing ways. :)
