OK, so like everyone else, I drilled out my knuckles and pitman arm to fit 3/4 inch rod ends. I am starting to feel that this is very amatuerish and low-tech. What size TRE's would have enough shaft to allow me to taper the hole and ditch the rod ends? It would have to be near 3/4 dia at the narrow end.

I think your best bet would be to have the hole brazed then drilled and reamed. What's wrong with the rod ends?

what about having a machine shop make a weld in spacer to fit your hole(or a bigger one) and a tierod, then weld it in.

rockwell tie rod ends are big enough. They'll set you back some green though.

This may be a way out if I can't find a humongus TRE! How ya' been, Jeff? How's the Toy coming along? Been on www.midwestcrawler.com lately?
I am just tired of worrying about the ends breaking/bolts stretching/balls wearing/etc. Plus, I have been seeing a lot of bad things happening to not-so-smart people when they see what I did and then run home and slap on a set of 6 dollar rod ends for steering. Makes me feel responsible, ya' know?

Why go with 3/4"@ 28,081 lbs static load? When
5/8"@40,572lbs and you dont have to drill out anything .you can carry your old stuff for spares.

That is and is not the ticket. Yes, that would get me back into a TRE but I would prefer a larger TRE and the insert would DEFINATELY need to be welded in, which should go without saying.
