: D300 in a YJ

I live near Toronto. Shipping almost anything across the border is crazy money (shipping, duty, broker fee, 1.6% exchange). So here is my question, I would like to put a D300 in my YJ. The flip kit is expensive and I was wondering if anyone tried rotating the 300 and just making new shifters (no kit). Could this work?

Yes it could work. Like you said, figure out a way to make the shifters work, get a blitz clocking ring so you dont have to cut anything and it should work. I have a 300 in mine with the flip kit, but all it really does is plug the old shifter holes and put a plate up top to locate the Atlas shifters.

Good luck and let us know how it goes;)

Welcome OCM, I am reelgp on JJ and JK canadian boards.
Get a clocking ring from Blitz. I just helped him design a flip kit clocking ring. If you run a 300, it has to be clocked...

So have the tubes swapped on the D44, and have a HP D44 front thats pass. side diff. Has to be cheaper than paying for a flip kit.

yeah you should just swap, the axle tubes out, instead of fabbing up your own way to bolt a 300 to the drivers side, I think that would be way easyer.

I know that Novak also has a clocking ring for that set-up. 877-602-1500. I think it goes for $155.00. Good choice on using the 300. You'll be happy with it.

dont know about your auto but did one with an ax15 and advaced adapter said that its mostly for the longer output shaft on the ax15 you can put it on that setup with out the adapter buty cutting of @3/4 in. might look into it

good luck:D

really? why? is it because it hangs too low and therfore does not allow the trans to mount or something? if you clock it,how much can you clock it before it hits the trans plate on a 727?

i've never heard that it must be done before. going searching now...

Sorry, I should have clarified. No reason why it "must" be clocked. But if you are going through the trouble of swapping one in, then I feel, why not clock it and gain the extra clearance at the center of the Jeep? My pan goes straight across the bottom of the frame. Nothing hangs below other than the springs and axles. Makes for a gret break over angle. Although, if you do not have any kind of a body lift, you will have to modify your floor to clock it up all the way past level. I just cut my floor out, and made up a new floor over the modified section. Not sure if that applies to all Jeep applications though, I just know it does in mine. I have no idea on trans clearance on a 727 either, I run it with a 700R4.

it's a circular pattern just redrill the tranny holes. easy as that. I bought a clocking ring then after looking at it I wish i would have saved my money. I bought the novak one too.

you can redill it just make sure you measure a couple 100 times before you drill.

and as far as the twin sticks there are write ups on here how to use two stock shifters and make them into twinb sticks. pretty easy. of course I found it after I bought the kit :(

do a search I know the site is out there maybe only 2-3 months ago.

Thanks for the replies. My original goal was to see if anyone tried to flip the D300 AND make their own shifters (no kit). If not then when I try it I will let you know if it is possible. If I put the D300 in, I would go for all the (homemade) possibilities, flipped, clocked, twin sticked, and if needed cut the floor.

I'm with ya OCM. I just got a 300 through some horse swappin'. I've been looking at it and wondering why I can't just make a couple of funky shift levers for it. I'm running an AW4, but that has no bearing on how our shifters will turn out. I should be starting this project next month. We'll also have to do the fill plug relocation, but that'll be the easy part I believe.
