I dont know who Perrone or Brian Bonner are, but intentionally starting a thread just to slag off when the accused have said nothing and aren't around to defend themselves is NOT COOL. If you want to rub opinions with them, fine, but you start picking fights in cyberspace thinking its funny youve got no self respect and or self control.
Grow up.
If youve got something to say to these guys, go find them and say it to their face.
Remember, the real world has consequences.
Play nice.

I'm not sure about Brian, but Perrone is pursuing other diversions right now, including coaching women's soccer and being very successful at it from what I understand. Given a choice of coaching a bunch of athletic college age women and hanging out on the boards, I know what I'd be doing!
By the way I have learned much from my association with him, more than I can say about many of his detractors.
Also, if you decide to punch him in the face, I hope you're bigger than he is!

Ok 9v, this didn't get through to you the first time so let me offer this in a different way. Bear with me, and don't get your foil in a bunch.
Wondering his whereabouts, while not Tech related, is a legitimate question. The "punching him in the face" comment is just plain juvenile. Our collective responses are in reaction to the way in which you are speaking, and not of the person you have directed your comments. Apologizing for your rant will gain you much more respect than standing your ground as a foul mouthed kid.

im sorry for my rant but jeez, even though this is supposed to be a "rougher" LR board we cant get away from the Whine and Cheese aspect can we. no offense intended towards anyone in particular but it just seems that this whole place is getting more disco webbish every single day.
why?

Well...certainly I feel the need to add my opinion to the most recent ranting of Adam (aka Butt Cheek) Check. I too am an avid reader of both the Discoweb and this here "rough" Board. I find that each board excells in different areas, the pirate tailoring more towards non-genuine and more extreme upgrades. To put this in perspective, one could say I am a "tweener," having a need for both boards. Many might say my truck is representative more of the Discoweb, however, I am sure that it is constantly turning into more of a POR board truck. As for the whining, I am yet to see more or less on either of the boards. I do, however, see that the source of most of this "whining" comes as the result of one individual rather than as a whole! I feel that here enlies your problem. I whole heartedly agree that if everyone is "whining" at you in particular, then from your perspective, this board would have a significantly increased rate of whine! But from an outside, more neutral perspective, this "whining" you speak of is not at all an issue, you are! So, I recommend the same advise of the other members that have commented in this an previous messages. You are the problem and the only one who can fix it is you!
I take this pre-emptive opportunity to satisfy your predictable reaction to my most recent comments. As I am near your age, I cannot be represented as a father figure, so think of it as some constructive criticism from a friend!;)
Well, I think that about covers it, should you feel the need to raise more blastfamous and unbased opinions about me as you have in the past, I think this thread is most suiting as we are not ruining another individuals oppotunity to learn.
P.S. hey rover de trout, when are we goin fishin?

i will admit that my "punch him in the face" comments were a bit on the childish side (okay maybe way on the childish side) but they were intended much more as a joke than anything else. i do not know if perrone could kick my ass or not, it is irrelevant. i will apologize for coming across as immature, so therefore i am sorry.
i admit that i can definetly come across as over the top a lot of the time, but that is just part of my personality i guess. at least my interweb personality. in person i am pretty mellow and would never say half the things i do on this board. as someone stated a while back-
"having a keyboard in front of you is like having a case of beer in you."
this saying applies to me very well. sometimes i can sober up, sometimes i just get keyboard drunk again. and then crap like this happens and i get torn a new one over it. by my count right now i have at least 27 assholes.
anyways just a little bit of clarification on my part, maybe i should enter FPA (forum posters anonymous) :flipoff2:

While he may sometimes post his opinion with a " greater than thou" attitude and then be totally wrong.. just think how boring life would be without Perrone and people like him, like you and like me !!! I can't tell you how many times I have laughed tears reading posts that he is a part of but ,,,at the same time and to his credit his website and club have helped lots of folks.. I like pushy know it all people and having head-butting debates with them.. long live Perrone and everyones' , including your, right to be totally wrong and opinionated...and to make a fool of one'self publically like you have on this board with this post!!!
Hey Paul T. what was that saying of your's.. don't let your alligator mouth get your tweety bird a$$ in trouble ??? Seems perfect here!!

I don't remember the exact statement I made, but it was close enough to your comment!
Being the kind of person I would want as a friend, I will again defend my friend Perrone. If the vast majority of folks who dislike him would take the time to either get to know him, or better yet, use reason to argue with him, you might be amazed at just how nice a guy he can be. He would likely give the shirt off his back to most of us here if we needed it.
On many occasions, he has assisted me with either something that he had actual hands-on knowledge of, or that he had either seen in a magazine, or read somewhere. It didn't matter to me the least that he had gained this knowledge without getting his hands dirty (I've taken many physics classes and know how atomic bombs work, but have never owned, nor built one!). In so many of the cases where he has been bashed, it was not due to his lack of knowledge, but his questioning someone else and that person reacting to the fact that someone questioned them. Chances are that most of these folks have such thin skin and overblown egos that had anyone challenged them, they would have resorted to childish name-calling.
I find it to be very curious that when he has provided me with an introduction to a vendor, they universally hold him in high regard (example, John at Rover Tym, Bill at Great Basin, and Dave at Rovers North).
I owe Perrone a debt of gratitude for the help he has given me and will not stand idly by while someone is bashed undeservedly.
Adam, sometimes, it really is better to keep opinions to oneself, as I am with my opinion of you right now.
As for the Discoweb debate, yes, this forum is far more technically oriented, but there is merit to both sites. Oh yeah, there seems to be an equal number of those who will not accept any criticism, nor stupid requests for assistance and will soundly flame you for an innocent ignorant comment or minor mistake. I too have felt Kyle's criticisms. Yeah, I know, I got snotty to a guy on the RN board, but I think he probably deserved it! At least I answered his question to try to help him out, regardless of how deep in over his head he was headed.
Peace,
Paul

You know, is there really that much differance between a 9v post and a Perrone post on Dweb?
j
After thinking about it, yes. Perrone might have actually paid for and touched all the stuff he critiques. We are all opinionated, (or else we wouldn't devote our time here) and some more than others. I don't use discoweb because of Perrone or Ho, in fact it is the other members that turn the posts to shiat.
Have I disagreed with Perrone? maybe, never really spent much time in his realm. Would I ask his opinion on something? Probably. Would I listen? Probably about as much as I do everyone else's and follow my gut.
Again, Adam don't you ever get tired of the taste of your own foot?

I check in from time to time.
Thanks for the kind words Schram and Way.
Adam, we've had some words before as I have with many in the LR community. And you know what, that's cool with me. My nature is to question everything (engineer/computer analyst in me) and sometimes that pisses people off. I've never claimed to be right about everything and clearly have been wrong about a lot. I've also learned a lot about Rovers and their owners in the past 3+ years that I have been involved with these trucks.
I've met some nice folks, and some folks I didn't care for. That's just a part of life. I don't think I'd ever threaten physical violence toward anyone just because I didn't agree with them or their opinoins but to each his own. I haven't met too many LR owners who'd feel comfortable picking a fight with me anyway.
So Adam, if you feel you need to bash me while I am away, have at it. And bash Brian too while your at it. He is indeed living in his shanty in Montana. And his traveling Registered Nurse wife is busy at the hospital saving lives every day. Maybe you should pick on her as well since she wheels the D90 as well.
I am interested to hear why you thought I was a "nutcase" as you so eloquently put it.

I disagree with the comment about deleting this post. I find that I often forget mistakes I have made in the past, however, a little phisical evidence always sparks the memory. I feel this post might be the very thing that Mr. Butt Cheek needs in order to remind himself of how the rest of us on this board feel! Why dont you put this one into your favorites, so while your drunk dialing, oh I mean typing, you always have a reference to put things into perspective.

perrone- i admire your ability to respond to this like a gentleman. i wish that i always had the sense to do so.
my comments about you being a "nutcase" were more directed towards the impression that i got from you on the many different lists that you and i interacted on. you had some excellent points and often times offered much scientific data, but then other times you were confusing theory and reality. i do too a lot.
my comments towards brian were directed much in the same way, except more at his ability to over react to a situation (not in a temper sense, more in an information sense). i do this sometimes too. there is nothing wrong with him living in a shanty in montana, i have a similar dream except it is in alaska and in a little more than a shanty :D
to every one else, well i truly do feel like an ass. rightfully so i would imagine. looking back upon it i truly have no idea why i posted what i did, in all honesty i dont remember. probably a lame attempt at humor if anything else. i suck at humor.
i appreciate the majority of you responding to this in an adultlike and peaceful manner, it could have gotten much worse very fast.
now i would like to ask something of all of you. although i am just a kid by most of your standards, i would like your help. i would like your help in training myself to be less impulsive with my actions on the BB and more thoughtful and helpful.
if i am being an ass, tell me. dont hold back your feelings. i need to know what people think of me so that i can improve them and see their reactions.
right now, i would like everyone to just totally empty their minds as to their thoughts about me. i can take it, and i wont fight back. come on you know you will feel better afterwards too :D

9V,
I debated weather I should post this here, or send it to you via PM. I think I'll post it here so that people can at least see that someone is offering constructive criticism and not just bashing you. I don't want anyone to think that I'm doing this for my sake, or that I'm bragging, or whatever....(whatever).
Anyway, I have given this a bit of thought today and I think that we all have been where you are, so don't take this as any kind of a 'holier than thou' lecture, but rather given in a spirit of helpfulness.
First off, you ask what people think of you. Well, I won't go into a lot of detail about the past, but the fact that you are doing this at all raises my opinion of you tremendously. Crow is bitter, and a humble pie chaser doesn't help much, but we all have to do it now and then. I healthy dose of introspection and self-evaluation is worth a lot in the long run. A LOT.
Now, as far as keeping your electronic regurgitations to a mininum, I have been thinking of this today as well.
When you get in the 'mood', and I think you know what I mean, get out of the internet browser you're using and head into Word or some such other program that you can compose a post in and have it NOT be able to be sent to the internet. Read it two or three times (I think RedRangie was talking about this). If it still sounds pretty good then take it a step further and e-mail it to yourself.
If you've gotten this far in the process you might have something that is written pretty well and that others may actually want to hear. Not only will you act as your own filter, but you'll also be getting e-mail from someone you actually like! Hehe. Two birds, one stone (so to speak).
Ok, now that you've gotten it in e-mail, re read it a few times and see if it STILL sounds good. It does? Cool. Now I think that you're pretty safe sending it to the world at large (i.e. the boards).
Cut, paste and prepare to send. You might want to re-read it *again* just to make *sure* then click away.
Also, (and this shows how vain I am), once it's posted you should go back and re-read what you posted in the context of any threads it may be part of (if any), and see if it needs to be edited or deleted. Don't be afraid to edit and/or delete if need be.
I have a personal example of NOT being able to edit or delete. When I wrote that story about the Serious One for the magazine I read and re-read it about a hundred times. I asked others to read it, and even printed it out so I could read it and mark it up.
It sounded and felt pretty good, so I sent it to LRW and it got published.
I waited and waited very impatiently for it to be published, and then SHAZAM! it was. I was stoked to see how it turned out.
Well, as luck would have it, there were plenty of omissions, typos, and downright errors. Additionally, there were times when my writing 'voice' didn't sound the way I really wanted it to. Too late to edit or delete once it's in print that's for sure. It's made me try to be very very careful when commiting anything to print, and hopefully that attitude carries over to the internet (although your example of keyboard-drunkeness is a pretty good one).
Now, I have a lot of experience as a journalist and reporter. I also have taken numerous classes on magazine article writing and have had many stories published all over the world in the past. Do you think it mattered? Nope. I was rusty, and excited, and the story was too close to me and there were times that I screwed up. Yeah, I can blame it on bad editing by the mag, but I won't.
Opinions and attitudes are very personal and sometimes checking them at the door and really writing things that are down to the facts and leaving your personal biases out is tough. I don't think that we need to write as robots, it's important that our individuality shine through, but at the same time we need to be careful that our personalities don't overwhelm the message.
So, there's some advice about the whole 'posting' topic at least. I'll let others chime in as they feel appropriate.
Trust me, I've read this post a couple of times before I sent it to make sure it says what I *really hope* it says.
Good luck during your epiphany. They don't come around often, and when they do you should take advantage of it.
