: Leaky Atlas

So.. I get a trial run on the Atlas. Finally... after working out the other issues.

My Atlas is leaking somewhere.... the fluid is so clean I can't tell where is the problem. But, I lost over 1 quart of fluid in under an hour. (think it was mostly when I was verticle for 20 minutes)

Now, my rear seal is leaking, but I have never seen one leak that much before. The breather line wasn't the culprit... any other ideas?

There are only a few places it can be leaking from. The yokes, fill/drain plugs, where it mounts to the transmission, bottom inspection cover, shouldn't be that hard to locate...

That is A LOT of fluid, especially considering the thing only holds what, 2 quarts?

odd, atlas is the only part of my drivetrain that has never leaked!

take some shop towels and clean it all, then reclean and see where the oil is coming from.

AA pre test them for leaks tho..

I love my Atlas and would tell everyone to get one....

but I swear that red stuff they use for gasket sealer must really work, only not on an Atlas.

Thank god or Mike for the site tube. Only thing that keeps me sane.

I would say that if it is leaking that bad you dont have the fill site tube tight as mentioned above..... Surely you have your yokes tight?

Actually, I think it's blue silicone but they leak test the Atlas with ATF before the blue silicone sets up and the ATF stains it red. I resealed a couple parts of my Atlas because the (now red) silicone was all mushy and I doubted it's sealing power.

That is kinda making me wonder. I wonder if the gasket took a crap on the inspection cover. Thre was a drop of red fluid on the cover, I just didn't think too much of it at the time. Since I knew the fluid I put in it was yellow/clear.

The yokes are tight
Fill tube fittings are tight
Breather line connected, and hose clamped.
fill plug was tight...er.... I'll have to double check that. I thought it was.

No free Atlas for the Jerk but maybe a good deal instead.

Jes, good thinking about the red.

Nahh.. was still a good day. First managed to actually crawl up some rocks I couldn't have crawled before. That was cool.

but that Sand wash on top of the powerlines, thats where I had the most fun. At one point I was verticle with enough air under my drivers front to park another Jeep under it. The GF never screamed or was concerned at any time. :D (I'll have to get that film developed today.)

Mine was shipped without the soft plug in the tail section. There is a soft plug that is on the rear bearing retainer housing at about 2 O'clock. I called AA and got the part #. You can get one at NAPA. or just squeeze some silicone in it like I did.
