: Scout 80 Front Pinch
IDScout 09-11-2010, 11:53 AM I figured I would start a new thread for the front pinch instead of adding it to my boat side thread.
I removed a total of 10" from the front and dropped it about 1" though the drop just came with the pinch.
Note that I have already removed the inner fenders.
Cut down the center and mark 5" to each side

I removed the header panel before welding.

Mounting the header back on was a BITCH:mad3:. I had to make pie cuts on the rear upper fender mounting flange. I found it easier to bolt one side together then I had the wife push on that side while I put the bolts in the other. "Push harder gawdammit"

Nice! thats on my to-do list for the next rig. Why did you settle on 10"? any good reason?
IDScout 09-11-2010, 12:00 PM Now for the hood.
Start by removing bar braces and parts of the cross braces.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0718.jpg
Make sure you remove this before you cut the sides:homer:
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0727.jpg
Mark outer perimeter
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0720.jpg
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0721.jpg
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0722.jpg
Cut off nose and down both sides.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0723.jpg
Make sure you relief cut the back before you try to push the edges in
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0724.jpg
Push the edges into the fender recess
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0725.jpg
I tacked the front edges to the hood so I could remove the hood
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0728.jpg
JERM83 09-11-2010, 12:03 PM I like how it is turning out. What are you going to use to hold the hood shut? Hood pins?
IDScout 09-11-2010, 04:27 PM Nice! thats on my to-do list for the next rig. Why did you settle on 10"? any good reason?
That is what RKSCOUT took out of his so I figured it was a good number to go with:D. It also puts the turn signals directly above the frame rails if it matters.
Hood pins are what I was planning unless someone has a better idea. I'm not to fond of them though.
IDScout 09-11-2010, 04:36 PM Hood panel cut to fit sides
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0730.jpg
Hood bolted back to hinges so the nose spacing will be correct.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0731.jpg
Inner panel separated from the nose piece.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0732.jpg
I also took this time to remove the 1/2" of bondo:shaking: and bang out the dents.
Nose with 10" removed.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0733.jpg
Nose welded back to hood panel.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0734.jpg
Now to weld everything together and put the braces back in.
war pony 09-11-2010, 06:37 PM Looks good, and some what familiar. Good job on the descriptions and step by step.

Thanks!
I started following the directions step by step then just went with the flow. Not sure if I did it the way you described but thanks for the E-Help.
I owe you one!

Lookin' good.
BeefCakeScout 09-12-2010, 10:36 AM me likey.:D

rkscout 09-13-2010, 12:29 PM Looking good. I like that your giving the step by step pics. I used hood pins on mine. What are your front fenders attached to? I attached mine to the front hoop I had built.

Thanks for putting the bug in my head:smokin:
Currently the front clip is held up with these two mounts.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/clipmount.jpg
I had them on since I built the Scout because the O.E. battery location made the whole clip bounce around way too much. With the removal of the inner fenders I relocated the battery to firewall which took that weight off of the front sheet metal. The fenders are still very rigid.
I still want to add tube similar to what you did as well as incorporate a new radiator mount into it. My list is getting longer, not shorter:shaking:
I never have liked hood pins but will probably end up using them. I found these NICE flush mount pins but they are spendy.
CLICKY (http://www.deftracing.com/aerocatch_hood_pins/aerocatch_plus_flush_hood_latches.htm)
budget76 09-14-2010, 11:42 AM I have a set of the flush mount ones that are just one of the round key tumblers that you turn 1/2 a turn to fasten, they didn't work on my BMW (the hood sat too high), but looked alot better than the normal pins I have on it now. I'd send em to you for free if you wanted em, but I'm 250 miles away. They're way cheaper than the trick ones you found, and IMO are a good compromise.
FWIW I'm not a big fan of pins either. They're on my DD because I didn't wanna tear the thing apart to replace the release handle+cable+underhood latch:shaking:

Got any pics?
yellowhornet 09-19-2010, 05:50 PM that turned out sic...i love it...now lets go wheelin....
IDScout 09-25-2010, 07:45 PM Finally finished welding the hood together and installed all of the bracing that was removed. As far as the middle brace, I cut it way too many times but now I know that you only need to make 2 cuts per side:shaking:
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g149/prospectorc4/IMG_0751-Copy.jpg
Was the hood as much of a bitch as I originally thought? Not really.
The TAC TAC NAZI would have been proud:flipoff2:
plug ugly 09-25-2010, 08:13 PM would it have just been easier to remove the whole piece from the underside of the hood, and just cut it down to match from there as opposed to leaving it in like you did?

Looks good, Don't forget the round stock bracing. That is a fine hood pinch, now lets see it on the rig.

YES
Cut it out and pie cut the rear inner pannel BEFORE you cut down the edges.

And the rubber air dam too:grinpimp:
I'll post pics tomorrow, but I ran out of paint so it looks like a leper.

As far as the leper look, I found that Hemi orange was closer to my oxidized orange than the Chevy orange that I was using :D
TECH: Duplicolor engine enamel Chevy orange covers better than the same type Hemi orange.
JERM83 09-26-2010, 12:24 PM Looks good. :smokin:
Buck Dodson 09-26-2010, 01:10 PM Nicely done!
