hi there
here in israel we don't have a lot of people who belive in rockcrawling. the israeli way is to put the pedal to metal and go.
you can see that even the frog came with 205 and rockwells on 44' tires - not realy a crawler.
my XJ has 1:147, 31' tires and it goes real slow.

i need to know from you a few things:
1. on slippery terrain, do you engage your crawler?
2. on loose surfaces, do you engage your crawler?
3. in case of downhill, when you need to accelerate - what do you do?

thank you

I think he means 4-lo:eek: Hey Laredo is your name Eran and do you know Liza. If so then by all means crawl until your heart is content but after three tries with no success redline the fawker and dump the clutch and wake up hopefully on the other side of the rocks.:flipoff2:

WIth my '99 TJ (4.0L 5spd 4:1 transfer case 4.88's lockers F/R and 35x12.50 Goodyear MT/R's) I usually leave it in low range, but use 2nd and 3rd quite a bit. I wheel in the Eastern USA, so we have a combo of rocks with lots of slippery mud. This past weekend it took 4-5K RPM's and 3rd gear quite a bit to make progress going up hills. A lot of areas require wheel speed out here. In rocks without mud, 1st gear is great for the control.

Really deep crawl ratios aren't very popular around here. In fact more than a single low range box (Tera Low 4-1, Atlas 4.3-1, etc.) is not needed.

OK, I know all this doesn't match up exactly with what you've asked, but at least it is more of an answer than most you've got so far.

look,
i dont want to fight you or brag,
but i probobly won more off-road events then you entered.
i dont have experience with that amount of crawl, so i wanted to ask all of you.
looks like you dont know a thing too, and that is the reson you respond like you do....

if someone can answer my original post i would be very thankfull

You've won all these off-road events but still can't figure out how you like to drive? Must have been some stiff competition  Those 3 questions you posed are pretty amateur. You can always try terrain both ways and see what works

I don't know sh!t about rocks though, so don't listen to me

if you know the frog (this year ttc) he came in 5th where i came 3 with 33' tires. if i knew how to post pics i would of show you a few things.
i know that you find it hadr to belive but the frog have less crawl ratio then stock tj - but it does.
as i mentioned earlier - we dont have klune/doublers here. in fact i am the only one in israel with that.

For slippery climbs, like wet rocks, wheel spin and momentum are your friends (lots of wheel spin and momentum for Tellico). If you have a lot of traction and not much slippage, crawl it...

For downhills, use regular low range (not the crawl box). Up-shift if you need to accelerate, just don't press the clutch and let it coast while in gear...

thanks overtech&redneck
at last some strait forward answers.
thats what i thought.
what about very loose uphill?
i have found that crawling is an option, but you have to plan a good route, its like seeking for traction all the way up.
do you use your crawler in that case?

This is a simple question with a simple answer.
"AS SLOW AS POSSIBLE, BUT AS FAST AS NECESSARY"

Loose and slippery just depends on how loose and how steep. But it's usually a scramble. Hit it with momentum and pick your path, easing off the gas just as you reach the top...
