Hi.

I have a 3.5 Pajero 99 model with 5 speed manual(V5M31). I want to change the transfer gearing ratio. I know of the gears in Aus. Is there other options to consider like another transfer make from ??? or something. Here in South Africa spares is sometimes a problem especially on Mitsu's. Basically the only spares I can get is from agents. I have friends with other makes of 4x4 like jeeps,ect. Is there perhaps a transfer that will fit with or without modification?

Any help would be appreciated.

You are really stuck with the stock tcase stuff unless you can do your own fabrication! Good luck!

If you want to change the diff gearing..... you've got some options from 4.22 4.63 4.88 or 5.29, if you just want to change the lowside of your tranfercase, they make a 3.15 gear for it..... everythings pretty well mitsu and only mitsu

That is really the best option.

Yes it would require alot of work with the 5speed, the automatics can use some of the newer jeep transfer cases.

If you were to swap an automatic you could use NV241, Dana 300, Atlas or any of the t-cases that can be adapted to the round jeep pattern.

i just picked up a spare 5 speed w/t-case at the junkyard for $100. Putting Gears in the Transfer case in the next month or two for my trip to Johnson Valley. Last year i almost wrecked myself as the low speeds were just to fast on those big rocks!

I would like an automatic but i just do not trust Japanese Automatic. no real reason for the mistrust. just personal flavor i guess.:)
