Since when? Guess the prices have come down since I got mine... but that was four years ago.

Anyway, I've got the 2.5 procomp kit on my 85 CJ7, and I'm happy with it. At the time I didn't want to lift the Jeep, but a lift kit was cheaper than buying stock springs. The springs are stiff as HELL when you put them in, it'll take em a long time to break em in. I just ran the snot out of mine and they were tolerable in about six months. But right after we installed the springs, all 220+ pounds of me was jumping on the bumper, and it would only move about an inch or so. Its much better now, but it wil ride very Jeep-like for a while.

So if initial ride is important, might want to look at something else. Again, I broke mine in by just wheeling it, is this his wheeling toy or a daily driver?

I suppose you get what you pay for. The reason I got the procomp kit was it was the cheapest one I could find, and i wasn't overly concerned with ride.

But again, i've had them on my rig for almost four years and I like em. Flex is decent, they've held up well, not much sag.

I just put the ProComp springs on my competition CJ7 and I felt they were a little too stiff in the beginning...I immediatly pulled out the bottom leaf on the rears only and found out that was a mistake as I put an S in the right rear at SuperCrawl. That was pretty hardcore on the hillclimb subject, so I understand why the spring did not hold up. After one month with the fronts on, they have settled in nicely...I guess I'll try out a replacement for the bent rear and put the bottom leaf back in and wait for the breakin to get a little better ride.
In the end, the price is right and they seem to hold up well for all of my non-competition buddies.

I ran pro crap springs on my jeep as the first lift. That didn't last a year and I had a sagging spring and a bent spring. That is when I just went spring over. I am taking it your dad doesn't want to do that so why not just get him some BDS springs. They have a nice ride and the price is pretty reasonable. My brother in law was running a pro crap lift SUA and they sagged; now he is running BDS and loves them.

Pro Comp sucks, i have their 4" YJ kit, I'm going SOA over Christmas. I've had it for a year and I'm actually getting it to flex like..... an inch. I've also bent a main leaf twice. I got pro crap cause I was poor. It also rides like an empty grain cart, which REALLY sucks when driving around off road or on road. Spend the extra bills and buy quality. If you wanna see how bad pro comp sucks, observe:

Uh the standard RE spring lifts are procomp springs. They are the same part number everything. I bent a 2.5" YJ lift one on my Jeep 3 years ago, and called them for a replacement and they told me they were just procomp springs. Their extreme duty or expensive lift systems are different springs however. I think they are custom.

For the money, no matter what people have "heard", Pro-Comp 2.5" springs are just fine, as previously mentioned they just need breaking in. Articulate the snot out of them and they do fine, just creak a little:D . I've been running a set for 3 years with cut fenders and a 1" body lift, they haven't sagged a bit and will easily stuff into whatever fender. Yeah, the ride aint OME, but the price isn't either and I've seen OME sag, PCs won't, at least the 2.5" ones.
BTW, I'm running Rancho RS5000s.
