Got your attention? Currently being put together by Mark Cymbaluk of Rocky Mountain Offroad in Alberta, Canada.

FJ-45, 6.5 Turbo Diesel, Unimog 406 axles, 4 Link front and rear. Can't really see from the picture, but those are Mark's own 3" joints (similar to JJ's) on the link ends made of machined tube, Delrin inners, greasable through the body (not the bolt). Even the washer on the end is machined! Very nice piece.

All the suspension parts are CNC'd and water cut.

Sorry for no more pics, this is all available right now.

I realy want to know the ride height and suspension design of this rig......
How are you going to deal with the 7.6:1 gear ratio in the mog axles? The 6.5 won't rev very well. Are you going to run a doubler backwards????

I assume plenty of room for 44's......

That has got to be the sweetest cruiser ever.

Note - The cruiser with the skinnies is sporting Michelin XLs in a 900R16 (I think). They might be 1100R16s but they look too small for that.

What I want to know is how he dealt with the front - Mog diff being offset the wrong way and all. Ford NP205?

Anyways, very suh-weet.

I'm planning on 404 axles myself, and yes, a Ford 205 was in my plans... but since i wanna go auto, a 700R4 and NV241 should fill the bill nicely.. and is a factory combo, like my current 465/205.

The 241 is actually pretty strong, and seems to be pretty clocking-friendly, but I can't use it as my skid plate like I can with my current 205.. oh well.

Plan: find a '89+ 1/2 or 3/4 ton that is a runner, and strip the whole motor/tranny/t-case/ecu(s) out of it...

That's my buddy Senkovitch looking at the front bumper -- and the ice chest on my FJ40 on the extreme left. We wheeled one day at CM01 with this guy. With the tall skinny tires, the truck was very tippy. The engine certainly was clean, however.

John I was checking out your photo albums the other day and I think I downloaded every shot you had of your 45. Cool truck.

A couple of years ago, I almost bought Henry Brimmers 454 FJ45. There were a few things about it that I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with so I decided against it. Some of those same issues still exist but the truck is for sale again and is built even more than it was last time I considered it. Now the problem is that Henry wants too much for it. Let me rephrase that. He wants more than I can pay for it.

Not sure if this is a repost (I'm sure it is), but doesn't the new Jeep concept vehicle look similar to the 45?

Tim.

I dunno much about Mog axles but the ones under this 45 are drum brake.......right? Arn't there Mog axles with disc brake or are the drums OK? Think the 416's were disc but maybe those axles don't work well in conversions like this. DON'T get me wrong I LOVE it......I'm just curious

I was wondering about the ARB bumper as my buddy had one he was gonna give me but this style looks like a rock catcher(not that I'm rock crawlin)......heck I should have thought......yeah just run 42 and no worries ;)

Seen it in the shop when Mark & crew were working on it. It is HUGE - as high or higher than the 404 hardtop that was in later. MArk does excellent work and I had no problems making the 2hr+ drive to his shop to get new gears installed. Very reasonable as well.

The mog axles are not the common 404s, most of the ones being installed under rockbuggies and the like have got disc brake conversions put on them, but from factory up until the 900 series they were all drum brake!

they may be 411s or bigger, as they look pretty stout, the cast 414 ones or something, but apparently, stand up to some SERIOUS abuse, with 44s and big block power, in "Yurop" (Europe)

The FJ in the pics is running Unimog 406 axles which are heavier than the popular 404's. The 406's have an air actuated locker rather than a mechanical set up. The drum brakes currently do a decent job of stopping the beast and still give any L/C owner the luxury of continually adjusting the brakes, just like factory stuff! The Mog brakes adjust a little easier though. It is equipped with a dual t-case set up, 203 range box coupled to a 205 Ford for double reduction, top speed according to the owner is 95 KPH, approx 58 MPH, reduction is nearing 200:1 when torque convertor multiplication is factored in. Trans is a 700R4. The ride height is due mostly to the front pinion being under the left half of the oil pan. The oil pump was relocated in the engine and most of the pan cut away on the left side, approx. 4" was left for up travel on the left side before the bumpstop takes effect, we kept it as low as we could while trying hard to maintain some sort of budget. The 406 also has a larger pinion which requires different mods than a 404 pinion conversion, an extra pinion brg is required. Xaxt Axle did a fine job for us on this. Thanks for the positive comments on the best BB out there, and thanks to Havik for letting us build a good part of his machine.

This is not an ad, I'm just explaining a few things for the people who asked.
