: hydro assist question for plumbing.

Anybody, Lakerat, Sean, etc...

I've been wondering about the "actual" requirements for

hydro assist plumbing in a steering box. Is there any reason

that a "Y" fitting could not be used to plumb hydraulic pressure

to the assist-ram? this might be a much easier was than tapping

into the steering box itself.

any reasons why it wouldn't work? or performance limitations?

--thanks for anybody's replies...

Let me ask a question before I answer. Are you meaning put a Y in the pressure line from the pump to the steering box, and then running that to the ram? If so, then how are you going to control which side of the ram gets pressure? If you Y that line to both sides of the ram, you will not be able bo move the ram at all because it will have 1000 psi or so on both sides. If you only run one line from your Y to the ram, the ram will either completely extend or completely retract depending on which fitting you use and there it will stay.

So in other words, IT WILL NOT WORK. You need to tap the box so that the correct side of the ram gets fluid and helps the steering box. I hope this makes sense to you

If yer talking a Y fitting off the pressure line, how would that line determine which side of the ram to apply pressure to?? The pump only applies the pressure - the box/wheel input is what determines which side of the spool valve takes that pressure and directs it to the proper hose.

thanks for the bluntness guys. yes, I did forget that the

steering box also is acting as the valve... my bad. I've been

sick.. yeah, that's it. I'm too poor to pay attention. yeah,

that's it...

MY girlfreind is Morgan Fairchild. yeah, that's it...

thanks,
