Hey guys, I'm trying to wire an 88yj to a AMC 360, The guy who owned it before cut up the harness pretty badly. What are the minimum hook ups for the engine (78 cherokee chief). I'm not running any emissions junk or a computer. I just want it to run (been almost a year now)
<IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0"> do i still need the ecu and the other question is can I just buy a cj7 wiring harnes from painless and be done with it? will it work? any help would be appreciated?

Centech makes a better kit, preterminated and their manual is much easier to follow. All wires are labeled every 6 inches or so so you dont loose track of where you are.

Weel, it shouldn't be too hard with an older motor. The only 2 electrical necessities of an engine are for the distributor and the choke (if it has an auto choke). I'm assuming you've got the starter wired up which should have been the same as with your original motor.
The choke is just a positive wire that gives power when ignition is on. You can convert to a manual choke for just $10 with a kit from an auto parts store.
Wiring the distributor will depend on the ignition system. You probably have a Motorcraft , not sure on your year though. Maybe someone with a 1978 FSM can help out. You can probably get a diagram from Chiltons/Haynes also. Your ECU will need + from ignition and the ecu should have a harness to the distributor. your coil will need a + and -
