: Western nc trail ride oct 23
rebelproud4x4 09-26-2010, 03:10 PM There will be a trail ride oct 23 in the harmon den area of the wnc mountains. all are welcome except for alcoholics that trash the trail lol. hit me up at rebelproud4x4@yahoo.com or respond to this thread for details. thanks.:jeep:
jduck 09-26-2010, 03:16 PM What area is the harmon den area?
rebelproud4x4 09-26-2010, 03:31 PM its about 8-10 miles inside of north carolina on I40. near the tennessee line. legal too...how bout that
jduck 09-26-2010, 03:51 PM Any pics of the trails or any more information about the trails?
rebelproud4x4 09-26-2010, 04:22 PM yeah...about that...im kind of a newb on here but the pictures can be found on myspace at www.myspace.com/rebelproud4x4, and id probably reccomend 33s at least...but if somebodys got a fair amount of experience there are ways to go around most obstacles with 31s. besides that, LOTS of rocks from basketball to truck hood sizes, some 2-4 ft deep mud, and one helluva cool hillclimb. there'll be an optional trip afterward where im gonna be exploring some more trails i found on a map in the same area, a few look promising. hopefully all will go well since its mah b-day weekend (no mud baths please...i know its coming) anditll be a good time. there are a few campsites along the way for breaks also.
biggin 09-27-2010, 11:08 AM Im in. Im just about 45 minutes from there. What time and where are you meeting at?
RockwelledToyota 09-27-2010, 06:15 PM rebelproud you should probably try nc4x4.com also
rebelproud4x4 09-28-2010, 09:53 AM meeting at the TA truck stop offa exit 37 on I40 in candler. probably around 2 or 2:30. if anything changes ill let yawl know. we ride this trail about once a month, but some of the others im gonna be checkin out afterwards ive never been on before...i got a map though so its idiot proof:homer:
biggin 09-28-2010, 11:09 AM Would be easier for me to meet you at the Harmon Den exit if that would be cool?
rebelproud4x4 09-28-2010, 12:20 PM the thing is the trail just goes right off the interstate and it would be before harmon den for me. but if you wanna meet me at fines creek exit 15 that would work. its just a lil bit up the road.
biggin 09-28-2010, 12:33 PM Are you talking about Hurricane Creek? I can meet you there or Fines creek.
rebelproud4x4 09-28-2010, 01:11 PM yeah its hurricane. doesnt matter. the first campsite isnt too far if you wanna meet there, or fines creek since youll have to get off there and turn around anyway.
rebelproud4x4 09-28-2010, 01:49 PM what kinda rig you bringin?
biggin 09-28-2010, 02:43 PM Yj with tons and 42's. I have always wanted to check that area out just havnt had the time.
rebelproud4x4 09-29-2010, 07:33 AM its pretty cool, nothin too crazy. the biggest thing is that its all unmaintained FSR, and its a shame ive went in there a couple times and hauled out a bronco-load of other peoples trash and shit.:mad3:
calvintoyota849105 09-29-2010, 11:36 AM is the road big enough to get a trailer in there and turn it around when its time to leave?
rebelproud4x4 09-29-2010, 01:35 PM we actually usually come out on the other end. we're coming out the same way this time, but theres nowhere to park a trailer 'cause its a dirt road that turns directly off the interstate. guardrails on both sides.
calvintoyota849105 09-29-2010, 01:54 PM well that sucks...id definitly go but my rig is not street legal
rebelproud4x4 09-30-2010, 08:18 AM i hear ya there. could probably park a trailer on the top side, but lots of theives in the middle of nowhere...kinda sucks
rebelproud4x4 10-06-2010, 09:44 AM damn it just might be cold lol...
McCracken 10-06-2010, 10:09 AM Yj with tons and 42's. I have always wanted to check that area out just havnt had the time.
you might be disappointed. I turkey hunt back there and the road/trail isn't what it used to be. Unless they've opened up some new spots I'm not aware of I'm pretty sure you're over built.

you could always park trailers off the Harmen Den exit at one of the big campsites and drive up to Max Patch then go down Hurricane. Hit the highway and drive 1 mile. The Hurricane exit is at MM8 and the exit is at MM7 if I remember correctly.
rebelproud4x4 10-06-2010, 01:51 PM yeah, didnt think of that. thnx. btw, i think the 42s and the weight of the tons will more than keep ya on the trail:smokin:
jimbo92 10-18-2010, 06:38 AM if you are planning on towing something there you WILL be dissapointed. Its a cool place but its more of an expedition style trip in a stockish rig. I took my z71 tahoe on 285 bfg at's all through there and the old lady drove the whole time. It was a good experience and fun but not a trip for a untagged rig that needs to be towed there in my opinion. These are considered roads and if you in an untagged rig you will get busted.
this area is great for expedition riding and camping.

also its prob not a good idea to bring a bunch of rigs at one time or tear the land up, we dont want it going the way of cullowhee.

lets remember this
McCracken 10-18-2010, 07:30 AM I hear there are some good trails on 12-mile but I'm not sure exactly where. Somebody said 35s are a good choice to run. That's more than Hurricane.
biggin 10-19-2010, 12:01 PM Well i will have my 7 & 4 year olds with me if I can make it. Just because it has tons and 42's doesnt mean it aint streetable ;) Just looking forward to a nice ride through the mountains.
rebelproud4x4 10-22-2010, 10:13 AM hurricane isnt just a "road" like some would leave you to beleive...sudden rain or snow cam make it downright hairy
