: Powell, Wy 2011 High Desert race ideas?
MNorby 09-27-2010, 05:03 PM Looking at maybe re-arranging the track some to allow an ultra4 style race with some more rock/offroad challanges. Here is a picture of the current track layout (red)and one of a proposed idea (blue). It would go over our smalll natural rock section in the north/east corener, go around some terrain on the side of that hill on the east side and also across our current artificial rock course. We would have to re-arraange the artificial course to make it race-able but thats ok.
Thinking of maybe running a 10 lap Ultra4 race in the morning, a 15-20 lap desert race on the normal course afternoon, then a 5 lap night race on the main track at sundown.
Any comments, concerns, ideas, etc????

crewchief 09-27-2010, 07:44 PM First!!! HAHA. I love the idea of a Ultra4 style race. And the night race is a great idea. HMMM i want to do all 3 races haha! I do think in the night race a brake light on the rigs would be very nice.
crzyxj 09-27-2010, 07:45 PM sounds like a good idea! I am in.
MNorby 09-27-2010, 07:46 PM anyone have concerns about rock racing across the concrete artificial rock course? it'll be a little easier than last years crawl but still same material.

I kinda figured you'd like the idea of 3 races in one day....
would have to add a few safety regs for the night race but shouldn't be too hard.
crzyxj 09-27-2010, 08:03 PM Someone there should be able to round up some boulders for the course. Just make sure the re-bar is all gone!

O ya i love the idea! haha
crzyxj 09-27-2010, 08:41 PM 3 races in one day! I am getting too old for this shit:flipoff2:
I would definately have a co-dog for the night race.
Would be fun as hell.
If my rig would hold up I would damn sure give it a go:D
axleater1 09-27-2010, 08:53 PM In!
Ditchrunner 09-27-2010, 10:26 PM Nice layout Matt.
I'll show. Hopefully with the race truck behind me.
MNorby 09-28-2010, 03:59 AM if we do the rock rack chances are we'll probably not do an actual rock crawl comp. Is that a problem or would you guys like to do a crawl too?
MT4Runner 09-28-2010, 07:01 AM anyone have concerns about rock racing across the concrete artificial rock course? it'll be a little easier than last years crawl but still same material.
4400 is about rock and fast--there are no easy lines in the tough rock trails at KOH. Go for it!

I my self would rather have it in the race then a rock crawl after. I also think the spectators would love to watch it more since there will be passing and way more speed!
MNorby 09-28-2010, 07:25 AM The biggest thing about running the race across the cement rock course is the chances of pieces of cement breaking and exposing rebar. If we station a crew there with a torch if that happens they could cut it out between traffic.
Weasel 09-28-2010, 04:45 PM I vote no on the artificial rocks (ie concrete) it seems like there is enough natural rock out there.
Concrete is killer on tires and I know some guys didn't want to do the rock crawl last year as concerns about it shredding their tires.
If it was my rig I wouldn't run in the concrete.
For the rock sections would have to have multiple do-able lines and wide enough to pass someone who gets stuck in a spot. While KOH has some huge rocks and crazy trails I'm not sure most guys want to run a "fun" race on insane obstacles and risk destroying rigs. It becomes not "fun" after that. If that makes any sense.
I also vote for running them all at the same time, if possible.

if they run the same section as last year I don't see how there will be anymore speed then there was, you couldn't roll through that much faster or really pass anyone.
MNorby 09-28-2010, 04:49 PM if we mark the race track about 25' wide through the artificial rock course there could be fast lines and room to make passes. the reason the crawl was so hard was everyone was trying to drive through cones strategically placed to make it hard.
I really don't know if stuff would break open, nothing has since we have been playing on that course all summer but it is a chance none the less.
Weasel 09-28-2010, 05:16 PM breaking open or not concrete generally is very bad on tires.
More natural the better, and I liked the section towards the south (cut off in the blue route) it was pretty cool and seems like there could be some neat rocks stuff in that area.
Montana_BLZIN 09-29-2010, 10:05 PM I think the race sounds like a great idea good to see this type of stuff coming up north :smokin:
MNorby 10-11-2010, 07:47 PM Went out and scouted out the track last weekend. Found the routes we'll use for some good natural obstacles and route with various line choices. We also started hauling out some large CAT loader and terra-gator tires to put parallel with the cement rock course so you can pick your line on cement, tires, or mix of both. Here is a revised map of the course we'll run:

Pinecreek 01-05-2011, 08:26 PM The husband says that he is all for the Ultra4 Routine of things as long as it is not as brutal as the Reno Stampede was (mass brutal)!! We have decided to play around home for a while and beat out some kinks in the buggy before jumping back into the brutal side of things.
MNorby 01-05-2011, 08:32 PM that we be cool. Checkout the forum for that event here
